well, then, there's the Farrah Fawcett comment about trees in Cannonball Run - go watch it again if you can't remember what I'm talking about. Poor girl was cold the entire movie I think.
that's what I love about Bangshift. Turbo Mustang thread turns into Need a Bigger Chainsaw.
since I sometimes need an interpretor to explain how I got from point A to point B, here's the short version:
Mustang, tree, Farrah's comment about what she really loves to do under trees, Farrah on a Mustang

it's hell living in this brain sometimes.Last edited by Beagle; May 14, 2013, 06:05 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

What is it costing you these days to rebuild a T5?Comment

Do the cheaper kits not have as many parts or do they not hold up as well? If the gears are still good, warn synchros are normally what make them grind? do you see a lot of bearing wear or do you just replace them while you are there?Comment

Wellllllllll, I was thinking about what I had posted when I picked up the transmission. $463 is only part of the story.
I purchased a full rebuild kit, with the carbon fiber blocking rings, several years ago from http://www.5speeds.com/
I think I paid around $250 for it.
John at Evil Genius Racing built the transmission for $350 labor, $25 hazardous materials fee, $80 for the shaft reinforcement donut + tax for the total of 463.
So total in is $713.
The transmission had eaten a bearing, so we needed to have it gone through.Last edited by Bob Holmes; May 14, 2013, 11:45 AM.I'm still learningComment

One of these days I want to try to build one. I have a "spare" T5 that I picked up it came out of an 86 GT but its really and old TC trans with a 4.0x frist gear, I have a feeling it did not have the correct pilot bearing the input shaft is kind of sloppy. Can not decide if I want to just take apart / resemble or try to put a cheap NWC kit in it.
The one in the 89 is not the smoothest. The one in the 79 had metal chips in the fluid last time I drained it
Maybe a good idea to pratice if I am going to keep a fox around, which is most likely the case but I am still on the fence.

Quick FYI, I've been happy with my G-Force upgraded T5, one step forward in upgrades past what bob has already done.
I've been beating mine up for a couple years now

When I went to Skip Barber, we got to run open wheel cars with crash boxes. Briefly lift, slam it into gear, no clutch. If we move on from AI, I want a straight geared, crash box. What a riot.I'm still learningComment
