I replaced the heater control unit yesterday with the one I got from a '66 Impala at the salvage yard. Should've checked the fan switch before installing. It didn't work. It was no fun to change to my new switch I had just installed on my old control unit while the unit was installed in the dash. But, now I have more than one fan speed. With the weather coming up the next two weeks, I will want a good heater.

I took the car Christmas shopping yesterday. Unfortunately, the battery didn't make it past the gas station. It was only 550 CCA's. No wonder it had trouble starting the car. I replaced it with arc welding ability of 850 CCA's.
Driving it out to Grand Island yesterday had it's PITA moments. Almost the whole trip. Hwy 30 has become rutted badly due to it's being asphalt and 50 ton grain and livestock. The car was all over the lane to the point I pulled over to check the front end for failing parts. Nothing wrong or loose.
Going back and forth from the pickup to this car means dealing with super tight steering and quicker ratio. Not to mention going from sort of power drum brakes to hydroboosted discs. The truck requires muscling it around, while this car does not.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

Just like me going from my manual drum brake, spooled rear end, manual steering Firebird to either my Skylark or Truck
Escaped on a technicality.Comment

I forgot to post that I killed another input bearing in my transmission. A month of 5500 rpm 1st to 2nd shifts when testing the AFR gauge probably did it in. I was kind of hoping that the cause of the last one was the bellhousing and destroying motor mounts putting pressure on the input shaft. Just like the last time, it makes horrible noises in 1st, 2nd, and 4th. 3rd is direct drive in this trans, where 4th gear is most 4 speeds. It still shifts and drives just fine. If you guys remember, I drove the car with the last trans making the same, filled with rocks, noises to SEMA and back without a problem. Thankfully, I have two new input bearings on the shelf. I just need to install them.Last edited by Scott Liggett; December 22, 2014, 09:03 AM.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

I had this issue in my Ram and now in my Mustang...the 10" wide wheels in the shitty rut filled roads out here in Tucson have me working the wheel like I am piloting a freaking ralley car....It's all over the damn place....
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark DonohueComment

Technically, no. When I bought the scattershield, the trans slipped right in, no fighting or binding at all like the old bellhousing. Since I had bought the wrong tool for checking alignment, I just let it go. I am going to buy the correct tool and check it. Really, I need a trans that isn't made for a crap hauling pickup.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

How hard is it to replace the bearing? I would like to see pictures / write up when you do it.Comment

I think it's just a snap ring behind the bearing cover, then just slide it over the input shaft. I will have to get out the repair manual to see first.
I need to get a good set of snap ring pliers first. Mine are old and sucked when new.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

Definitely far more had automatics. The reason why I changed my car. It was originally a powerglide car.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver
