I bet even Yanick would be disgusted by that order of operations oopsie.... for that reason among others - I've decided not to paint the falcon engine compartment body color, it's going to be light gray - same with underbody and trunk.

I would not even know where to start with a high end paint job - what do you wrap the car with - a bunch of welding blankets taped in place? Eek.

My daughter in law's father had a 76 Vega hatchback had all the body work done it was ready for wet sand and paint then he brings it to me and my son to put floor pans a cage and to install the windows and put the motor in and headers we also had to build and install wheel tubs. He says be carefull of the body work it's all ready for paint I told him you can tell when someone does'nt do the work themselves and does'nt know how to plan a project out. We got it all done with little body damage to repair,I swore never again.

Yea - I hear ya James - I plan to pull the engine (it's just sitting in the mounts) and get the engine compartment, floors and trunk painted this weekend, then start back in on the wiring and other stuff.

we MAY be moving in February.... that won't help.

Monica drove her Mustang. Just sayin.... (okay, it was in the driveway and she says it needs power steering, but still)

No that would not be smart. I have done many burn outs and the car move less than a foot. Just keep a foot in the brakes

Not going to hassle you with a poll - just want some opinions. I'm tiring of the black engine compartment, decided on a gray color for the falcon. I have a gallon, way way more than enough for the engine compartment. I'm thinking of painting the underside of the car and the trunk all the same color, it's a light gray color not battleship gray, more like the color typical of epoxy garage floors.

We plan to paint this weekend (while we're also painting Lee's pedal car - pics to follow - it's sand blasted and waiting for primer now)

                      Pedal cars should be red.

Mix the red with the gray and you get.. PINK. Paint that mother Pink... Nothing says you are secure in your manhood like pepto bismol PINK.

I am considering a dirt color for Monica's engine compartment, but leaning toward valve cover leak and grime gray.

Beags is working on perfecting the next trend before it hits....... not patina at all.....what are you going to call it Beags?

                        Grunge? Goo? Gunk? Grunke?

Ah, that's it! Grunke!! (please forward all proceeds and royalties to the SRA - thats the Stiney Retirement Account)

So the next big thing is Grunke......glad I'm all ready for it!

(Sorry you just spent all that time cleaning the Grunke off the Falcon John - trends are SO hard to follow aren't they?)

Call it what you will - I'll just call it ugly - if it was just the faded original paint - I'd have left it alone, as it was the worst excuse for a home paint job I've ever seen, over the original... I couldn't live with it. Sorry to disappoint.

My buddy the painter just found a hidden stash of old-school flake.......not the paint, the actual flake to go IN the paint.

I can see the Falcon in a glittery royal blue in my mind.

(And I think Beags has the gunke thing strickly underhood, kind of a stealth retro fashion thing)

I have given fleeting thoughts to a cali - style flaked roof.... but not this time.

Plan is white roof, white dash and door steel, and we're going to mix the middle between Ming Green and Acapulco Blue in the paint chart for the rest of the body..... some day.

Still not sure I will be able to get the mark 8 electric seat tracks to work - I may have to fab up something to put manual seat tracks under those seats - they were comfy in the GTO for all of drag week - but they were locked in one position and not wired to move.... the driver seat track is rusty - we couldn't get the motors to move more than about 1/4 turn. boo.

Soak the track in white vinegar? Suspend the whole seat from your engine lift and just submerge the track?

Or unbolt the track and go electrolysis?

I bet the motor will work much easier if the track is degunked. (like that segway from thread to thread?)
