Rear seat is already out. It sure is noisy in there w/o the rear seat!
I'll get the harness bar fixed up later on. Right now, I have to adjust this rear suspension and hope the car does not flip over backwards.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

In the SCTA/ECTA rulebook the shoulder bar needs to mount the shoulder belts 2" to 4" below the driver's shoulders. Also, the belt can't touch the seat with the driver in place - it can rub on the belt and make it weaker which you won't know until you need it. Not sure about drag race rules.

Dan that is an interesting bit of information, I didn't know about "not touch the seat with driver in place rule". As my project is intended to do both. I'd looked at the NHRA and SCTA rules and pictures which are similar in terms of belt angle at the shoulder. NHRA at these speeds is way more lenient as they allow factory and non-racing aftermarket seats until you get to 7.50's and under. Kind crazy really, but they do on occasion respond to their market's sensibilities.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?Comment

It makes sense if you think about it. Even if the seat doesn't chafe the belts the slot can fold up in an accident leaving the belts loose and you bouncing around like a ping-pong ball. Sometimes you have to cut the slots bigger and that's OK.
I agree with the assessment that NHRA is more likely to compromise if they get enough complaints from the racers. SCTA/ECTA is not in the position of working to fill the roster and they've had too many accidents at speed to bend the rules. It sounds overly dramatic but the rules really are written in blood.

I made the change to the rear suspension. This thing *should* hit the tires hard now and hopefully I can control the separation with the shocks. I think the Strange shocks will get stiff enough to keep it under control.
Saturday is the next list race. I have not been called out yet, but figure it will definitely happen this week. The local tuning shop got with the track and is starting an additional list for 87 and later cars, EFI only, pump gas or E85, etc aimed at the ricky racer local guys who "street race". It seems those guys don't think cars like mine are street cars. It will probably turn into an 11.50 index list because most of those guys think a roll bar is only for race cars. I think it's kinda dumb, but if it gets people in the gate at the track I guess I can't complain too much.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

As long as you drive your car home from the races, it's a street car. Maybe you need to start making some outlaw money ;)

I am no camshaft expert but those lobes look to have steep ramps!Comment

They are not too bad. haha 735/.735 lift 274/286 @ 0.050" on a 108. It's similar to the cam I had in the Ranger, but with a little bit more lift and a tighter LSA.
Calculated cranking pressure only drops about 5lbs, because my cam is installed straight up and this one is ground 4 degrees advanced.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

sweet - are you pulling the engine to swap cams or can you do the swap by pulling the front of the car apart? not sure which would be easier. Good luck in the next race - are you using the smart phone app Bill recommended for tracking your stats? There's always something new to learn.Comment

When I do the cam swap I hope to leave the engine in it if at all possible. It would be nice to figure out how to do it in the event I need to R&R the cam on DW.
I do not have the smart phone app Bill mentioned. I don't think it's available for a Blackberry, but I might look into using it on the ipad.....Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

usually the damper is the tough part of a cam swap in the car....get one of those timing covers with a hole in it so you don't need to pull the damper again.
