interesting - if you're married to the "locked out timing" idea - why not pull it and weld the top and bottom part of the shafts together to eliminate that as a source of variability?

Too much work!
I'm happy with the locked out timing. It is definitely locked up tight now. This car continually reminds me I need to assume nothing and verify everything!
Jim, maybe? IDK, as long as it is consistent, which it seems to be now, I will just adapt and move on.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

No. The only time I ever tried to use it was last year on the drives during DW. Not sure if it even worked. haha
Well, would ya look at that.

That was an interesting read. The net for me being, never ever run an HEI distributor. Back when I was running a distributor it was the MSD pro billet model with vacuum advance. It really worked quite well and was very reliable and yes it had an advance curve and the vacuum advance was tuned too. Given the variety of things I want my 'street car' to do I liked the tuning range and the ability to optimize spark timing for conditions.Originally posted by BBR View PostNo. The only time I ever tried to use it was last year on the drives during DW. A locked out distributor would be like have an EFI spark table with same number in very cell: why? JMO.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?Comment

Simplicity for me. Sometimes I'm dumb as a stump and have to keep it simple. haha
The other reason is that this engine combo likes a lot of initial advance, so trying to set it up with spring and weights, etc to only have a minimal amount of change from initial to total does not seem worth the effort.
That being said I have considered plopping in an MS just to control spark and have data logging capabilities.....Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Worked a little on the car today. I decided to take the bfh and clearance the fenders more so the slicks would fit without using the spacers. I also set out to reconfigure my fuel regulator and lines. Ended up just leaving it the way I had it because I couldn't come up with a better way. I *did* find that there was a hunk of rubber hose stuck in the inlet of the reg almost totally blocking the flow of fuel. This has to be the reason the car was nosing over the last time out. The chunk is surely a piece left over when I screwed up a pushlok hose end once upon a time. Had to have been in there during Drag Week too!Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Some HEI modules DO have spark retard in them-others don't. The part numbers are listed on thirdgen.org.Originally posted by squirrel View PostI wonder if the timing change is in the module itself? That is good to know! Thanks!
Sorry no pics of the bfh mods but it looks just about like every other fox body that has had the inner fender wells bashed in for tire clearance.

Old pic showing where I believe that hunk of rubber once resided:

Bill, I'm not proud. I figure it's better to tell it all. That way when I do have an epic screw-up, it's not a shock to anyone. haha I'm still learning as I go.
