    Lincoln Mark VIII

Got this car last week, found it on craigslist for $1000, score! The 80 year old guy said he did not like paying insurance on 2 cars? It needed a new electric cooling fan, got one off a t-bird in the JY for $28 he said the passenger side window does not work I have not tired it yet the paint on the hood it shot and the driver's seat is torn, there is something wrong with the radio it plays really quite. I think I sold my convertible mustang for more than I paid for the Mark. This will be my new daily driver, I would like to take it to the track but I don't want to break it, what do you think?

I have bin eyeing the mark 8,s. Thought they would look really good in semigloss black with 18 inch red/chrome steelies. got a pic? Will we meet next week at Maxton?

Well I have stopped buying stuff for cars I don't own. Is that a step in the right or wrong direction?

The M8 has the best aero of any car FoMoCo has ever built.
            nicely done.

if the air ride fails (when?) there are companies that make coil spring retro fits, cause the factory air stuff is big $$

I love these cars, closest I got to owning one was a '93 tbird.

the PO put coil springs on it already! My 1st car was an 85 t-bird still have it but it lives under a shead now, had a 88 turbo coupe worked on it more than I drove it so I got it running and sold it, I would have kept it if it had been a 5-speed. I really want to know what the M8 will do in the mile but I have not faith in fords auto trannys, maybe next fall after I have driven my $1000 out of it

4R70W in those car should be pretty tough, here is a article where they put a brake in used one and ran in the 9's with a blown 4 cam in a fox body

The early Cobra motor in that car is very close to the motor in your Mark 8

                  THUNDERBIRD86,

That is amazing, that is a great build, this drive train combo would be great in a lighter car! so I need to loose a bunch of weight, get a bunch of boost and some low gears and it will be really fast! it is good to hear that low mileage parts are strong, but I still not sure that how tough they are after 132k miles, it it holds up I am sure it will see the track some day.

Where are you, do you what color is your car, i would love to switch hoods and finders if yours look better.

                    Re: Lincoln Mark VIII

Have not seen it in person but my buddy said it is silver and has been in a wreck (front end). I am going to try yo get it as cheap as I can evan if I have to wait on it. Another friend just bought a black one with 60,000 on it for $400 that has some dings and needs a grill. Would be bad ass to build one these cars up as a sleeper and the most comfortable car ever for drag week. The power in that article was amazing but it was done by a great tunner on race gas. V10 mercury on here has 160,000 plus mile Mark 8 motor with 15pounds of boost running mid 11's in a 4,000 plus pound car. I think I would just build a Mark 8 if I did not already have my Tbird as they are way cooler and have a better interior.

I have been driving the Mark for a few months now, got over 8k "trouble free" miles so far. I replaced the passenger sided power window motor, the radio pretty much fixed it self. The idle pulley locked up, looks funny when the belt is sliding on the pulley, easy fix. The thorn in my side it the turn signals, I replaced the turn signal switch w/ one from the JY work for a while then started working sometimes it will come on then stop. I thought it was b/c it was old got a new one from the parts story 3 days later its doing the same thing as the old one, is it the flasher not the switch? I like to signal before I cut people off!

Russel - I would try the flasher - it's a cheap part to swap out - then make sure all your lights are working....

Does yours have the LED tail lights? those are pricey but cool looking - not sure if they require any special circuitry that would effect the turn signal operation...

                          Re: Lincoln Mark VIII

Worked on the Mark yesterday one of the tail lights was a little dark but did not look burned the other was amber? so I got 2 new bulbs. I did not think it had a flasher in it there is nothing in the round spot in the fuse block when I was at the Advanced Auto they looked up the flasher and it was a small black box so i got one of those. After over any hour of searching I found the flasher behind the glove box. Ford has had some pretty dumb ideas over the years but what would possess them to move the flasher from the fuse box to behind the glove box! So for now my turn signals work I hope they last longer than 3 days.

Something is still not right when you use the turn signal it knocks off the cruise control?

I forgot how much fun this car is to drive, I just wish it had a 5 speed and not the slush box. 25 more days to get it ready for Maxton! Anybody want to guess what it will run? (pre and post blue tape ;D)

M8 is one of the best driving cars I've ever been in.

The turn signal killing the cruise control is some kind of gremlin feedback through the brake light switch which is supposed to kill the cruise control.

did anyone by chance put a trailer hitch on this thing and associated hacked tail light harness for lights? I've had all kinds of problems with that - but I can't imagine anybody towing with a M8!
