Did you notice the breather/fill tube at the front of the intake, by the upper radiator hose? All early Chevys had that fill tube.

Great looking engine Monk! The breathers are a nice touch!

I know, that's why I asked if they were removable or not.
      Escaped on a technicality.

The tops are removeable to clean or replace the filter material, but they usually have a hole on the bottom that's so small it takes forever to fill a qt. of oil. I had them on one set of valve covers for the 327 in my Austin, and the first oil change made me remove them and go to something faster for oil changes. If my 327 would have had the fill tube on the intake I'd have loved to have kept them!

Couldn't of drilled a decent sized hole in the bottom of them for oil? I could see subtly modify one with a big hole on the bottom and to seal the lid for oil and leave the other as a breather.

Yeah you could probably do that.......there's plenty of material there to modify.

As Austin mentioned, right now the hole is rather small
and might take some time for oil to fill.

SB is there a spot you can drill a hole in the intake for oil fill.

I didn't think that motor stayed together long enough to need oil added? HAHAHAHA... HAHAHA. Ooops. Sorry. Work has made me cynical and mean today. ya ya, I know - mine don't need oil at all.

Pre 68 SBC's had a big fill tube in the intake, iirc the truck kind would hold about half a quart before spilling all over the place. Assuming you didn't hit the runners or water, have a look at the Explorer setup or a SN95 sbf I think has a snakey oil fill. You could come off the back of the manifold probably, keep it hidden sorta?

                Sorry Thom. Nice breathers.

Yuk yuk yuk. When I get home to Ely I'll have a count of how many miles since I last pulled the engine as I recorded the mileage from when the engine last went together right before Drag Week 2011. It's right around 12,000 I think, if not a couple thousand more (keep in mind it was in paint jail a good chunk of summer :*( ).

I could probably put a hole and pipe fill next to the PVC valve in the intake at the back of the engine, but wouldn't likely work well for a breather. I'm wondering about using two of these, on in each valve cover right above where the exhaust cross over of the intake would go and is also a gap between injectors.

I really do love what you've done to the '55, and especially with a 409! They're such a unique power choice!

Model make and year? Let's see - 1955 Chevrolet, call it a 409 engine. Yes, it's 2 wheel drive. Sorry sir, we don't show a 409cc engine in that year, just a 265cc. Are you sure?

                              Never mind........
