  • Curt Johnson's Drag Week 509

Thing is insane. Anyone know any other specs beyond that it's a 509" with RFD Victors and 13.5:1 ? Wondering what kind of monstor cam and how much it weighs to run those times so consistently.

Or maybe it's a 540 incher. Either way.

I heared Freiburger say it was a 632" BBC today. I don't know any other setails though. It hauls the mail for a NA street car. 9.0's everytime.

Interesting. In years past it was a 509" all aluminum BBC running the same times. I'm just wondering about valvetrain and cam specs (approx), etc.

I am sure the valvetrain stuff is mostly a kept secret---at least the cam specs anyhow. And the lobes is where it'll make or break a combo--literally. But I'm sure you know that. I'd be curious of the profile of the lobe, as if it is a "square" lobe so to speak or something that is a little more gentle on the lifters and springs.

Car has to be very very light. It is stripped down and the motor is all aluminum. Its a 632 IIRC.
Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Freiburger corrected himself today after getting hammered by Johnson. It is indeed a 509" engine. Once again the interweb was wrong.

That's what I thought. There have been several brief blurbs about his car in past years online and magazines about the engine (Aluminum 509), heads (RFD Victors), etc....but nothing really on the valvetrain. Thing flies!

Later after the rain delay he came back an ran 906 151
