    I believe my 2016 combo will have a performance advantage with the efficiency and light weight of Powerglide, great torque curve and the right vehicle weight but will or wont it be an advantage is not why I posted this in the Drag Week forum.
    I'm looking for answers how reliable a PG is over a TH400 given the increased heat and strain of a weak fist gear ratio in traffic and more converter stall this setup will need. It will have a Gear Vendors.

      Converter choice is very critical, managing trans temp is very critical. Pulling a trailer? If so, those two things just became VERY critical.

        Let's see...if you decide you want 3 speeds with a PG/GV, how does that compare to 3 speeds with a TH400 by itself?

        Just curious.

        I know there are some guys running the PG/GV combo.

          The best part about running running a power glide is that Rick Prospero can rebuild one in the pits (or beside the road) with his eyes closed. Haha.

          Really though, there are area lot of guys that run a glide and gv on dw. I have considered it, but my budget won't allow, so I'll just keep the old C6.

            I'm with Jim on this one. If your combo can get away with the higher first gear ratio that a PG has in comparison to a TH-400, then why won't you just use a TH-400 and drop the rear gear to a numerically lower value? I did some calculations for you:

            TH-400 has 2.48 - 1.48 - 1.0 gears
            Powerglide assume you choose 1.76 - 1.0
            Gear Vendors has a 0.78 ratio in overdrive.

            If you run a 4.10 rear gear with the PG, then your final drive ratios will be: 7.462 - 4.10 - 3.198
            TH-400 without gear vendors, you could run a 3.08 rear gear and then get: 7.638 - 4.558 - 3.08

            You see that the first gear final drive ratio with the TH-400 and 3.08 will get you just a little more gear in first and when you cruise in third it is also slightly longer than the Powerglide with the Gearvendor in overdrive.

            Buying a good TH-400 isn't much more expensive than a Powerglide, so save yourself the extra money needed for the Gearvendor and go for the TH-400. there is about 25 pounds of weight difference between a TH-400 and a Powergilde. Gearvendor says on their site that their unit weighs between 32 and 46 pounds, depending on application. If I do the math on this, the PG+GV combo is heavier.
