  • Trans Issues With My Mopar 518 Trans

    I have been have shift issues.. both up shifting and down shifting.. it
    has all the gears but on the up shifts its WAY to high and doesnt want
    to down shift even at zero speed unless I pull it into first/low.. then I put
    it back up into drive... I put a gauge on the governor port today and I got
    zero pressure when in gear.. as I went up in speed the pressure started
    to climb just like it should(1 psi per 1 MPH).. I slowed back to zero speed
    and the gauge showed zero.. as I picked up speed the gauge didnt move..
    anyone have any idea whats happening with this... thanks for any help..
    if I dont get this fixed one final time I sure wont be doing DW

    The F-ing piece of crap has to come out AGAIN.. I'm ready to torch the
    whole damn thing.. IF I dont torch it.. I'm going to something else.. 5
    trans is a bit much... I'm so f-ing pissed

            After thinking about this.. it could have been my fault all along..
            I never had the conv cleaned out.. I did the trans last time and
            had a shop check it out... if the trash in the conv stuck a bunch
            of stuff in there(VB parts and the gov)... I have to think this thing
            out... I have the stock 518 that didnt have reverse sitting here..
            stock VB.. do I rebuild it and have the conv checked and cleaned
            and try again... or I have to start cutting the chassis apart so I can
            fit another style of trans in it... I dont know

              Don't forget to flush the cooler and lines too.

                I did do that in the past but never the conv.. forgetting it or too stupid\
                to have it cleaned out

                    Mike when I had Vortec Converter cut mine open it was full shit.... That could be what has been happening

                      I have a trans sitting on the bench that was in it the last time.. it
                      didnt have reverse but had the rest of the gears... I tore it apart
                      today and seen what the issue was.. I tore both of the nylon rings
                      on the input shaft... after tearing the whole thing down that was the
                      only thing wrong... so I'm gonna put this one back together with the
                      parts needed.. I will have to go through the VB to make sure its
                      clean.. sending out the conv for a check up and clean.. I want to
                      get a few things changed on it while its there.... so this is my plan
                      anyways

                        Well the engine/trans is setting on the shop floor once again..
                        I will give the conv company a call tomorrow.. I tried to contact
                        the Friday but didnt get them... I want a few things different so
                        maybe another conv might be in line.. we will talk... the trans is
                        about ready to go back together.. I've put it together and back
                        apart about 4 times looking at everything... still need to clean
                        the valve body and the cooler

                          I should have my conv back tomorrow... might get this thing
                          put back together before I leave for Texas... might have it
                          back together by Saturday... so I can finish cleaning up
                          my shop... I also need to take about 30 gals of oil to the
                          parts store to get rid of it

                            Got the conv back this afternoon.. engine and trans are back
                            together and in the car... headers are in.. the hard work is done
                            but I've had PLENTY of practice doing this... tomorrow I will see
                            if I can finish it up but I have a few things to do also
