My daughter has a 99 Ford Ranger, and it has the ignition key with a chip in it. When trying to use a non-chipped key, it won't start. Tonight she lost her key at a restaurant, couldn't start the truck with her spare hidden key, but after 2 hours of searching out in the -10 degree F parking lot, she found it.
As the vehicles age and depreciate, it is far, far more likely to loose the key than to get the truck stolen. So we don't need no stinkin' chip.
How can I bypass this thing so it will start with a 2 dollar key instead of a $200 key?
I know it can be done, because these things will start with a remote starter and there isn't a chip within 200 feet. You just have to know how. There must be a place to hook a jumper wire or something.
Can anyone help?
Thanks, Joel
