I come away with the feeling that the newer trends in chassis design, seem to be coming from Foreign markets. I can see a future where Impaxx foam becomes an integral part of race car construction along with highly deformable, impact absorbing structures. There seems to be a conspicuous lack of tube bends in many of the newer foreign chassis designs, which inevitably leads to greater chassis stiffness/ per a given weight.
I think some of these attributes are worth pursuing in a new design, although the contradictions in design philosophy (rules)make it difficult for anyone in the sport to advance.
SCCA RULES FOR ROOL BAR HOOPS
3.3.2 Roll Bars
1. One continuous length of tubing must be used for the hoop member
with smooth continuous bends and no evidence of crimping or wall
failure.
