I use only high-torque starters and good solenoids, no offshore crap. On my car I use a Ford solenoid on the firewall, a throwback to my stock car days.

But you still have a solenoid on the starter right? I never got this other than to keep the battery voltage off the solenoid all the time. You still need to kick out the gear dont you?

I still have the starter solenoid hooked up. And everything works fine. I could sketch up what goes where if you are interested.
