More interesting. To me at least. LS engines do not interest me in the least. I mean something like a 5.4 3v, a Ford 6.2L or a Gen3 Hemi. I know some are cringing in the mere mention of a 5.4 3v, but now that I have locked the phasers out in mine, I really like it. There's just very little aftermarket support for it though.
Then again, I may just leave everything as is. I really enjoy "the build" part of all this stuff though.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I used to have a 354 that needed a sleeve..... and a bunch of other stuff.
The unorthodox part sounds good until you start thinking about what transmission to put behind them. Then they sorta loose their appeal.
The notable exception being the G3 Hemi because regular Chrysler transmissions and converters (727, A518) will bolt up and work with those with little issue.Last edited by BBR; January 10, 2018, 09:18 AM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Keep your Ford all Ford:
Very weird: 300 I6 with a M122 AND a turbo
Harder to get but still trans swappable: Aussie crossflow I6 with and M90 and turbo (or just the M122)
More Mod Motor: V10 with a DIY EFI intake for the twin M90's
Straying from all Ford:
Bizzare: Olds 350 diesel block with a 425 crank, aluminum gas heads, and twin turbos
Luxo Strange: BMW or Merc V12 with some form of boost (Merc trans are pretty basic, the BMW is not)
That's my weird list...Central TEXAS Sleeper

The V10 idea did cross my mind at one point, but then again, performance parts availability is grim.
I have been thinking a lot about which way to go with this project for several days and really just keep coming back to my original 2 options.
A. Play with the efi460 and see how far I can take it - likely with forced induction. More street-truck.
B. Put the 552/C6 in it. More drag-truck.
I could probably sell the 552 and have a nice little pile of $$ to reinvest in the truck. The biggest caveat of the 552 is that I really really really like how it runs and drives as it is right now. I would be super tickled to take those sweet street manners and add more power with a turbo or something. That being said, I could re-cam the 552 and improve it's street manners somewhat and then build off that. It is a ridiculously solid foundation after all.
Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I vote for one of the BBF engines. I would love to see what the efi 460 turbo would do. I am a sucker for a jy build. On the other hand it would be cool to see if you can get the truck to run the same number as the mustang with the 552.
You could sell the 552 turbo the 460, and be on the look out for deals on heads and stroker kits and upgrade later.

What's the largest displacement stroker kit that can be used in a stock block? Keeping the EFI (larger injectors), with better heads and more cubes.... would be very interesting!
I agree - there are far too many LS swaps going on in the world, we don't need another one.
My college buddy has a couple of these (in factory hiboy trim) he also had a 78 bronco when we were in school, oh the hours we spent working on that thing! The love for these body styles is strong in our generation - probably because the first "monster truck" big foot was made from this most excellent platform.Last edited by milner351; January 26, 2018, 07:32 AM.There's always something new to learn.

I'd be curious how the EFI 460 would handle about 7-10 pounds of boost and a super duty intercooler. Do you have enough room to change the manifolds side to side? I haven't looked at the E7 heads that close, can you flip them? I didn't think you could with D3ve or D0ve's.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

I don't know if they will flip or not. I think the front accessories would probable be in the way. I really thought of just running some headers and looping it back around.
I totally forgot about the SD intercoolers....... Hmmmmmm.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Looks like Paul now has a website for his killer E4OD/4R100 valve bodies.

Like a semi-obscure 80's Iron Maiden song, I feel like I've been here before.....
1 year old heater core. Kaput.

With the Mustang project nearing something resembling completion, I am starting to think more about what to do with the truck.
The EFI engine runs ok, but it is becoming a leaker. The front cover and rear main are starting to leave their marks everywhere. (not to mention the heater core) Doing anything forced induction-wise would likely exacerbate those issues significantly.
So, I think I am just going to put the 552 in it. I listed the 552 for sale around here a while back, but had no takers. Not surprising really considering the number of Ford haters around here.
This swap would boost the performance the most for the least money out of my pocket. I mean, it *is* just sitting there waiting for me to drop it in. Haha
Decision made. Onward and upward!
