  • Flip this car!

Well I pulled the trigger bought my first "for profit" project I will be tracking all cost so in the end we can see if there is anything to show for my blood and sweet.

I spent $1300 and now own a 1998 Mustang GT. It needs paint a little body work, trans, rear tire, and a new owner! Only time will tell if I make or loose money. Wish me luck

I can not figure out how to post picture from my phone. I uploaded one to my photobucket. Add $65 for towing service. (Cheaper than a new winch) Should I include the $16 for the roses I bought for my wife b/c I bought anouther car?

            Total
            $1365 or $1381?

                Agreed $1381

Anyone know anything about transmission? (T-45) I was told it was "bad" when I bought it it fells like its locked up when in gear, and its hard to push in neutral (and makes noise) . I figure the 1st thing I will do is pull the drive shaft make sure its not the rear.

                    Re: Flip this car!

I know most transmission guys charge too much - that's why I take good care of the trans guy I know that's good and honest!

pull the drive shaft and make sure it's not the rear end - that's a brilliant first step, then pull the trans out and see how much play there is in the input and out put shafts, etc.
There's always something new to learn.

I know a trans guy who I think is Good and Honest but he is no where near cheap. Right now I am leaning towards a used unit. Car-part has one for $650 ($575 if I change the tail housing), I have seen them on CL for $450, there is on the corral for $300 but its in syracuse new york so plus shipping unless someone wants to bring it to NC and It will need the tail housing swap.

Last time I bought a T-5 rebuild kit it was about $260. You owe yourself at least a peek inside before spending bucks on something else.

I always assumed that trans work was above my ability. Doesn't a rebuild require a press? Other special tools?

they're not all that bad... you can have a machine shop do the bearing pressing for probably not a lot of coin if you go that route. As far as taking them apart for inspection, a parts diagragm is a good thing to have.

                              http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...ustration.html

has a pretty good zoomable picture in it. The t45 has a bit of history with bending shift forks, which could cause what I think I heard you saying about stuck/grind.

They probably want a core, no reason not to play with it first! Missing teeth, razor sharp gears, etc. are pretty obvious.
