Today I was working in the shop with the door up and a guy walked across the street to see what was going on . He was doing a reno on the house across the street . I had a big plastic sheet covering the car but it's pulled up at the back exposing the taillights and he told me that his son works in a restoration shop and he was working on a 68 Mustang of some sort , he told me the code letters but I don't remember them . He thought I was working on a Mustang too , then I told him that this isn't a Mustang !. You should have seen the look on his face !. lol , got another one !

I managed to get all the frame components installed on the weekend , lots of sparks flying . Today I started narrowing the diff . 2 7/8" was removed from the driver side , now it's the same as the passenger side . So a second passenger side axle fits the driver side . FedEx delivered the axle , bearings , seals , and wheel studs last week and Amazon delivered a Traction Lok clutch kit as well . Moving along .

I got some work done this weekend and ordered some parts ( I love ordering parts , but I don't like paying for parts ). I welded the axle tube back together plus welded on all the DSE brackets . The DSE axle pieces go together like a jig saw puzzle , excellent quality . After that was done I pulled the Traction-Lok out to replace the clutches and found pitting on the spider gears . I goggled spider gear pitting and the first thing up was from a Explorer site , is this common with Explorer spider gears ?. I though of going to the junk yard and grabbing a pair but they might be just as bad .The four gears , cross pin and retaining bolt cost more than a new ring and pinion !. So I placed an order for spider gears , seals , and a new pinion yoke . Also today I placed the old fuel tank in place to see how it would work in conjunction with the QuardraLink suspension , it's a tight fit as far as running tail pipes out the back . By the way DSE sells a stainless steel tank modified to fix this problem for $1300 . Mind you this tank has all the bells and whistles and is way more than I'll need plus I'm sure it's another quality piece from DSE . I seam sealed the new rear floor pan and etch primed the new four link attachment points as well . By the way my shop stinks of old gear oil now ! god that crap stinks !Last edited by langleylad; May 29, 2018, 09:39 PM.
