If Jake wants to work for one of the big OEMs or suppliers, and he comes in with EFI experience on his resume - I can tell you with certainty his resume will quickly go into the "we need to interview this candidate" pile!
Add to that the fact that he already knows his way around a vehicle - and he's in the top 2% of folks we've hired recently. There's always something new to learn.

It may not look like it, but there was a lot of work done here this weekend. Seriously. A lot of re-wiring, re-routing, re-thinking stuff that has been scabbed onto for years. I am much happier with it now and it should not be long until the SBF is occupying this space.

While Jake was working on the Jeep, Judd and I did some Mustang work. Judd learned to pack the back of the crank with grease to pop the old pilot bearing out. We installed the new pilot bearing, rear main seal, spacer plate, flywheel, clutch, bellhousing and stabbed the trans. While he was at tennis, I installed a new speedo cable and a new clutch cable.
It is pretty much ready to stab in! Whoo Hoo!

Either the white truck in the background has a flat, or it's sinking into the concrete!
This build looks like great fun for the boys. Hell, it's fun just to watch. Need video when they get to run it down the track for the first time, with a camera for driver reaction!

We squeezed in some shop time yesterday! Engine and transmission are finally in! Jake installed the motor mounts, Judd put the starter on and then we slipped it right into place. It looks so tiny in there! Haha
This k-member has 2 sets of slots for the motor mounts. The front set is stock and the back set is 1" offset to the rear. I'm really considering using the 1" offset slots because the steering shaft is right next to a header tube. Moving the engine back 1" will really help that situation.
They also installed the carb and some other small stuff. Jake had to leave to go do homework so Judd and I started repairing the trans crossmember mounts that I cut out to make the big motor and headers fit. I made some brackets and then proceeded to weld them to the floor pan. I took the precaution to slide a couple of wood stakes propped on the trans tunnel to keep the carpet well away from the floor pan. We don't want a fire you know.... Good idea, poor execution. Haha. I *thought* I was welding well between the two stakes but in reality I was welding directly under the tip of one. Yikes! Judd was watching the inside of the car and started saying there was a lot of smoke coming out. I hopped up, pulled the carpet back and the stake was fully ablaze!! I got it quickly put out, and while the jute backing was a bit crispy, the carpet was undamaged. Disaster averted! We did have a fire extinguisher handy if it were to get out of hand.
Overall it was a good day with a little excitement and a good learning experience for them.
The next big phase is swapping the rearend back to the one with 3.55 gears, stock trac-lok and 1/2" wheel studs. Then it will just be down to the little stuff!Last edited by BBR; February 26, 2018, 08:42 AM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Ordered the last 2 things ( I think,,,) we really need.
- a shifter with built-in stops We bought a cheapie eBay one. They seem to be surprisingly decent from what I have read.
- a 2.5" off-road H-pipe - Jegs had it on sale yesterday for less than I could buy the raw tubing so that was a no brainer.
I also registered for www.rockymountainraceweek.com last night! Now we HAVE to get this thing finished!!

That sounds like fun! Both boys going? What are you predictions? What's it gonna run!?

This time will just be me and Jake. When Judd gets his license, then we will do this or Drag Week if he wants. Trying to make it a cool experience for them one on one with me.
Prediction? Idk. I entered in the 13.00-13.99 class, because Jake has zero experience driving a 5 speed, let alone launching one and rowing the gears down the track. If he gets the hang of it before June, we *might* spray it into the low 12's. He's a quick learner, so that is entirely possible.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
