Loot!
This is a score because I got pretty much every 87-up part I was wanting!
-lower rear shock mounts
-front springs
-spindles & calipers (for the 87-up larger brakes & later style struts)
-8.8 with 3.55 gears!
I was really hoping it had 3.27's or 3.55's so I was super duper excited when I counted the pinion turns and it turned 3.5 times!
The S-Box is just the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. They are $375 new!Last edited by BBR; March 28, 2012, 07:36 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Pulled the diff cover. The L/S clutches look nice and thick and the gears look perfect. (Ford 3.55). Looks like I will weld the tubes, pull the bearings, chop the ends and put this whole housing in my car.
Jake and I took a little trip to pick up a pizza. Drove it for the first time with the t-tops out. They are still a pain in the butt to put back in, but it was fun to run around open air.
Car ran good. It was warm out and it got up to 190 deg. I think it may need more/better airflow when it's going down the road because it actually cools down a bit when it's idling in my driveway.
I am also thinking about putting a Moroso (or similar) water pump drive on it. This thing makes a ton of water pressure at high rpm and I'd like to eliminate that as a potential problem. I had a Moroso on my first Ranger V8 project and it seemed to work fine. By using the drive and a stock pump, I figure if the electric motor conks out on DW, I can just put the pulley and belt back on and be on my way. I'd like a dedicated electric pump like the one Moroso offers, but man, they are freaking expensive.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I think the motors for the electric water pump drives are a pretty universal 12v motor - they look allot like hvac blower motors. I bet keeping a spare one of those on hand for DW would be easier than swapping back to a crank belt drive. I have an electric water pump drive kit I got years ago at a swap and haven't used.... you're giving me ideas.
Great that you got some more seat time in the car around town. There's always something new to learn.

I have an electric Taurus fan motor that is huge, might just work for that. Then all I have to sweat is the alt. belt.. I really like that.Last edited by Beagle; April 2, 2012, 07:18 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

After reading some threads on the 460 sites about mechanical water pumps making enough pressure at high rpm to blow core plugs out, I decided to just go ahead and get an electric pump. The separate drive might work fine, but for just a few bucks more I bought a Procomp electric pump, which actually has some favorable reviews from reputable members. And honestly a google search reveals threads about all brands of pumps leaking and having problems. Anyway, it is a CSR copy so if the motor conks, I can just put a CSR motor in the housing and still be ahead money-wise.
Now I can stop obsessing about high cooling system pressure, etc. Wheew.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

James - I have seen consistent horror stories on the Procomp Electric (seals and such), and not a bunch of good. Seems one sided, only the guys with problems... normally the guys who love them also speak up? It's been a while since I did that research, maybe stuff has changed. Let us know how it works for you, I'd trust your feedback WAY more than "them".
The hang a motor off the side of the mechanical pump, pulley, and backup belt plan sounds a hell of a lot more conservative / fixable on the road, so I'm still stealing that.Last edited by Beagle; April 3, 2012, 06:36 PM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.
