Oh the timing of such things. I'm starting a two part story on just this mod. But, you'll have to go to the front page to read it.

This is a weird distributor. It does not look like any other brand. So much for Procomp being a rip-off copy of an MSD or Mallory. haha
I just pulled the advance weights out and replaced the springs with the stiff ones from a Mr.Gasket recurve kit. I don't think it will move one iota without the weights because they are pretty stiff.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Ok so I've been fiddling with this thing..... never could get it to fire up with this distributor since I pulled it out and I have no idea why. I'm suspecting some sort of cap/rotor issue maybe. I honestly don't know. So.... I got out the old HEI dist I had in this motor previously, hooked it up and it lit right off. Set initial at 17 and then checked it's mechanical advance. 13 degrees. Perfectly usable. Closed the hood and went on my way. Haha.
On a side note.... DAMN this thing sounds good.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

After reading Randal's advance/retard cam thread, I decided to do a compression test just to see what my cranking pressure is. I was a little surprised at the results. I was expecting to see low 170's. I criss-crossed front to back taking these readings.
Bank 1
1 182
2 187
3 184
4 187
Bank 2
5 179
6 180
7 179
8 180
I think bank 1 is higher because one cylinder on that head has been repaired. I bet it had a clean up mill pass after they fixed it.
BTW, #3,4,7 & 8 were a total b*tch to get to with the gauge hose!Last edited by BBR; February 16, 2012, 12:46 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
