I finally bought a vacuum gauge. This thing pulls a healthy 6" of vacuum at idle. haha That means the 6.5 power valve in it has got to go so I picked up a 3.5 today at Oreilly. Now maybe I will be able to get this thing to run and idle better. One step at a time, one step at a time.

I really wanted an analog gauge vs. a digital because my brain interprets analog better.Last edited by BBR; December 2, 2011, 03:05 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

NICE indeed. The four corner idle should help - but if you have to drill holes in the primaries - that's what ya gotta do....I hope the 3.5 pv doesn't great a lean bog as you punch it - might need a 4.5, only time will tell. Hard to wrap my head around you being in TX and needing to add anti freeze! There's always something new to learn.

James will be looking at a low of 25 tonight, warming all the way up to 26 tomorrow. I'll be draining the pipes in Hillsboro tomorrow night.
Time to bust out the garage heater. I'm thinking about tee-ing off of the CNG hot water heater and running a house heater in the garage this year.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

Careful with the gas piping - I just bought a valve and some pipe at HD and they make it pretty hard to pick the natural gas valves from the water valves, just make sure you get the right one - and remember to get extra couplings, I always seem to forget enough couplings. Heat in the garage is a mighty wonderful thing. There's always something new to learn.

GLOBAL WARMING?
nutso - I was painting natural gas pipe to the generator Sunday afternoon in 50+ and rain. Last night - our first snow - heavy wet stuff, mostly gone by this morning, hovering right around freezing.
Scott - what do folks in SoCal do when it's under 40 - good Lord - there aren't enough sweatshirts at walmart for that. There's always something new to learn.

41 deg in Ama and no wind. It is actually really nice out.
Wideband showed up today. Can't wait to start fiddling with it.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Pulled the distributor out of the car at lunch today. It really likes 18+ degrees of initial timing, but this distributor has a titanic 26 degrees of mechanical advance, so I'm either going to:
A. Limit the mechanical advance
B. Set up mechanical with super light springs to come all in at a really, really low rpm so it's effectively at full advance at idle (1000-1200 rpm) but not during start.
C. Lock it out
Really leaning towards just locking it out since the Duraspark box offers 10 deg of start retard. Either way, I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to tackle it.

did you see the pics in my ranger thread on this very subject?
My 302 duraspark had a mile wide advance slot as well - I filled it in with JBweld putty and reduced the total mechanical advance close to 20. (welding on that mystery metal seemed a bad idea to me)There's always something new to learn.
