    • I doubt its the mounts.........we ARE talking about a FOX body wet noodle with T-Tops to boot.

      • My transmission buddy is very insistant about NOT running solid trans mounts - he seen way too many cracked housings using solid mounts.

I think a limiter would be a good idea - so you're not replacing a broken mount during DW or any other time.

Nice fix - and even nicer you found your lost stuff!

              • Been reading a lot about hood scoops/pressures/bowl vents/down track lean out/wacky AFRs/ etc. Very very cool stuff and it has me thinking I needed to do something to correct the fact my bowl vent tubes are oriented sideways and the supposition that the hood scoop may be producing strange pressure areas down track. So, I took a couple of sparkplug boots, some plastic tubing and made a bowl vent connector to stabilize the pressure in the front and rear bowl. I figure it couldn't hurt so might as well give it a try.

                • A friend ran his "pro stock" pinto that way - it was a back halfed retired race car when he got it - he put a junkyard engine and trans in it and ran sportsman. He always had rubber fuel line connecting the front and rear bowl vents. I wasn't sure why.
He ran the old style bug catcher open front scoop - it was on his car when he got it.

are you going to add a pan with foam to seal the carb inlet to the scoop?

                  • The bowl vent fix certainly can't hurt, but the isolator is the key idea as reducing inlet air temps is as close to free power as you can get. I'd really like to see you run a large, no restriction air cleaner, as it solves for smoothing airflow into the carb, not to mention keeping airborne junk out of the engine. If you ever have some sort of slightly off track, or even in the marbles excursion, you can throw up a lot of crap into the underhood area.

I bought some Wix racing filters on special from Roush recently, 16"x3.5" and 16"x3.75" rounds, $10 each. They run those on their Cup and Nationwide cars. The boxes are a bit ugly but the filters are brand spankin' new. They also have carbon fiber aircleaner assemblies used which are gorgeous and cheap.

                    • John, maybe. I think I want to make one more trip to the track before trying that. The main issue being the top of the carb does not sit below the hood line so it would have to be more than just a simple pan. I could however, take some sheet metal and close up the stock hood hole so that it fits much closer around the air filter.....

The filter above is a 2.5" x 14. Kinda dinky, but not much else will fit. I don't think a drop base 16" filter will clear my distributor either.

                      • On second thought, I guess I could try a 16" drop base and then use a carby spacer of some sort to get it to clear the dist..... wheel are turning....

                        • This was the 16" air cleaner base I used with the dominator and the EFI throttle body. It was a Moroso part number. I hammered the base flat so that I could make a larger ring with foam on it as an isolator to the under side of the cowl hood. If it had a scoop it owuld work the same. I left the isolator off for street driving. On top I cut a ring out of sheet aluminum so I could re-use the K&N filter top.

On the dyno the filter top made zero difference vs. the solid top. The filter top has an outer register however that makes fitting ti to the extender ring easier.

This is one of the reasons for going to EFI as I could run the high rise single four barrel manifold with TB instead of the low rise with a carb under the same cowl hood. I switched to a dry fogger for the N2O which is funny as I never got around to using it as I always ran the NA class.

                            • I had a Summit Bucks code that was about to expire, so I went ahead and ordered a K&N 60-1640 16" filter with drop base. After looking at lots of pics on the web I think it may clear the top of my distributor just fine.

The Moroso one looked nice, but that bulby fat lid they have may have caused issues, so I elected to buy the K&N that has a more conventional top.
