  • C6/WS6 Build Thread

Long time Camaro/Firebird owner and driver here. Finally joined the ultra-exclusive Corvette club like bonecrusher here last summer and thought I'd start a thread here on it.

It's been quite awhile since I've posted but I really enjoy documenting everything car related and thought what better time than now to start again. So here goes!

Previously I had a long thread on ls1tech featuring the last fourth gen I did any real work to here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-ls1-o...l-es-juan.html

I have since sold that car, bought and sold a 2000 Camaro SS, Foxbody, Tundra, you name it.. haha. But! I finally landed where I really wanted to with this 2005 Corvette. To make a long story short, I found the car on craigslist and more or less bought it sight unseen haha. It was a hell of a deal and I had a pile of money burning a hole in my pocket, so off to Springfield, MO my best friend and I went! It's about a 12 hour drive from where I live so it was a jump off the deep end to buy a car.

Couple of pics of what was in-between the black camaro and here....

A quick 3 hours of sleep in a $49/night hotel in a bad part of Kansas City was unnerving with a lot of cash but we survived and kept traveling the next day.

When we arrived it was exactly as described (shocker), maybe even nicer than I expected. SOLD!

After we exchanged cash and the title, my friend and I went East to St. Louis for the night to catch a Brewers and Cardinals game. Perfect weather, and staying at a hotel one block from the park that's way too nice for us really made the trip perfect.

Fast forward through the uneventful drive back to Wisconsin and I landed at my Grandparent's house for the night. Woke up the next morning and peeled the black stripes off of the hood before meeting up with a couple of friends to check out the new car.

After getting home with it, I ordered a Corsa Extreme Catback and a Vararam Snack Charmer intake. Installed both as soon as they showed up and was pleased with a noticeable gain in power.

After cleaning it up, I got ready for a semi-local Powercruise event and had an awesome time driving it on a road course and roll racing all kinds of different cars.

I ended up getting a condo with a good friend and another couple. Great view of the drag racing area and most of the campground.

Staging before entering the road course...

Needed a bath after a long weekend!!

So, that brings us up to last fall more or less. I ended up storing the car in a friends building all winter which was great! Only hiccup was a dead battery, but it started right up and sounded great this Spring.

After putting a few miles on it, I decided I was more than used to the power the car had and made a few calls. Avery Collins at Texas Speed & Performance came through big and got me hooked up with a deal on a set of longtubes/x-pipe.

Since the exhaust is sorted out, I emailed Steve at Elite Engineering and got a heck of a deal on an e2 catch can setup and an insulated transmission tunnel brace.

All of that more or less brings us up to date with where the car sits. Next weekend I'll be installing those parts along with a few other odds and ends that will really change the way the car drives, and I can't wait!

Glad to have another vette guy here . I'd rather you be a old C4 guy but, good for you getting a better one ! Great up grades . To me it's amazing that you and bone crusher are upgrading these newer VERY ALREADY CAPABLE cars . I'm sitting here with a 92 300 horse 6 speed and just about content with it as is . Well , except the previous owner modded the exhaust by whacking the muffs off and bugger welding in straight pipe in their place and putting the tips back on . ( Sounds really good but a bit loud ) Congrats again and keep us posted . We like pics . You've done great on that as well .

Haha. This was a long time coming! Couldn't be happier with it and buying it was an adventure in itself.

The newer vettes are capable, that's for sure. I spent a day out at Ron Fellows driving school and went for a ride with an instructor in a new Grand Sport at full tilt. I was absolutely convinced I was going to die. They are psychotic with a good driver haha.

Here is a clip from one outing at powercruise from last year. I did notice a couple times during the weekend that my clutch pedal stuck to the floor while changing gears at high rpm. Apparently this is normal ?...

Hmm, I've read and had other responses that it was the master cylinder as the culprit. Apparently, there was a recall on it.

So here's the next update! I did install all of the parts this weekend successfully, and the car really runs better than ever.

Here's a few pictures out of the many I took over the last couple of days:

Quick stop for dinner and late night hydration, then off to my Grandparent's house!

More parts from Avery @ Texas Speed!

                            Car up in the air....

                              Part two...

                              Pile of old parts...

Both rearward exhaust manifold bolts were broken on the OEM manifolds. Glad they both came out!! Check out the attached video for more info.

New Elite Engineering tunnel brace next to the OEM part.

Passenger's side manifold removed like the driver's side...

All put back together with new TSP Longtubes, MSD 8.5mm wires, NGK TR-55 plugs, Taylow wire insulators, and Stage 8 Locking Header Bolts...

There's a LONG install video/sound clips coming soon, stay tuned!
