61 Impala SS trunk emblem. One of very few things added to the 61 to make it an SS.

                          Your good.
I don't know much about the early Impalas, what else was added?

Not much, mostly it was a trim package. Spinner hubcaps, narrow white walls, tach, passenger grab bar, SS badges, metallic brake shoes, and stiffer shocks. $54 also got you a choice of the three hotter 348 or the 409. Only 453 made that year.

My 65 SS got badges, buckets, console, gauges, tach optional, heavy duty suspension and metallic brake shoes. The 250 sixer was standard.

You could get a complete "Continental Kit" for the '61 model year!

Complete with rear spare tire mount, dual rear antenas, black bumper tits, and side view mirrors on the front fenders. Buddy had one like that, wierd looking. It wasn't an SS though.
