I'm over the two steps, trans brakes, boost building, stall speeding, crew staging, wheelie bar setting, data log starting, ANYTHING ritual on starting lines. I think that is a LOT of what grabbed me from streams of half mile racing. Has anyone considered building and tuning to leave from a brisk idle? It makes sense with an automatic because a converter will flash higher than it will stall for more efficiency. Sounds boring? Well a combo like that will do EPIC dry hops! Plus of course if you street drive in a semi-rural area every stop sign is a potential test hit for a gear or two to the posted speed limit. Urban driving makes on ramps an adventure as well.

My 68 Nova was set up like that when I was carrying it to the track ( didn't want to bust my last 4-speed ), had a ATI converter that would flash about 4500. Never had electronics on it. Street driving was fun but not as much as the 4-speed.Pt 2010, Long Haul 2011,12,13,14,15,16,17, 18, 19, 23

Okay Rock, for traffic......I was sitting at Mama and Daddy's house, we were all in the den. Daddy had a 30-inch color TV, that was state of the art at the time. I think I've told this story here before.
Daddy had the NASCAR race going on that state of the art 30-inch TV. The race broadcast from Talladega. However the hell you spell that.
Daddy always had his thumb on the remote control, another state of the art advancement. He would doze off in the chair at times and the channel would change. Mama was sitting over there on the couch knitting. Yes, I'm serious, knitting. Norman Rockwell never painted such a painting of anything so American.
Well, on the TV, they had the extremely predictable wreck at Talladega - the BIG one. About 20 cars were in it....well, the Big One. Daddy was snoring but Mama looked up from her knitting when the announcers on the TV started shouting and carrying on, they were all hyped up about the easily predictable wreck.
Mama glanced up from her knitting and watched the gargantuan wreck happen on the TV. She summarized it quite easily. She said, "They were just going too fast. All of them, they were just going too fast."
That's my wisdom for right now.

Great feeling cutting a good light and putting a fender out on a quicker car after sitting going bloopty bloop with the carb loaded up from full throttle dry hops.
