PROJECT CARS
RUMBLE BEE '70 DODGE SUPER BEE
Freiburger has said that if our shop catches on fire this is the car to push out first. That’s because it’s his first and nicest car. It was purchased in April 1983, for $1,800 and was a daily driver through high school and beyond until it finally became a Hot Rod magazine project car in 1994 and 1995 (the stories are still live at www.hotrod.com). That was when it was painted for the third time and loaded with its fourth engine using the first of the Mopar Performance repop Hemi blocks. It’s a 489-incher built by Dick Landy and it has run 10.62 at 128 mph. It was never very streetable (as documented in a 1998 Car Craft magazine story), so it was neglected in Freiburger’s garage for 10 years (as seen in the photo). It’s now in our shop as we prepare for a re-do to make the Bee both faster and more driveable.

PLEASE, FOR GODS SAKE ROLL IT OUT AND JUST WASH IT OFF OR SOMETHING. That's my favorite big mope, and seeing it all stuffed up in the box just makes me cringe. I know it's not my car, or business, but I look EVERY day at it and it's still jammed in the garage. Would you consider maybe just changing the picture or something. It's like seeing a picture of a loved one stuck in a hospital bed. Comb grandpa's hair, sit him up in the bed and take a new pic plleeeaaase.
