BBR's Ranger got a cubic shit ton of hits before the Red Fox... but I don't want to mention it because if I unintentionally overlook anyone I'll get hammered for it. lol.

Great stuff is right. I'm still oh so very on the fence about going roller cam. Lot of $$$ for the peace of mind.

I hammered on a few people who wouldn't let the roller cam suggestion go on FB. They were really easily spending my $1000 and I slammed the door on them. My lifter problem has nothing to do with it being a flat tappet.

I got the car running today, finally. I waited until I got a 160* Stant Superstat. I flushed out the radiator an the the engine as best I could before adding fresh antifreeze. Cant understand why the stuff that came out was dirt brown and smelled since it had so few miles on it.

I stuck the hose down the radiater and in the intake manifold through the thermostat hole and hosed away until the water was clear coming out. Cheap radiator flush. I also added a bottle of Water Wetter to the mix.

I'm very seriously considering putting a flat solid in a roller ready motor - an old (new from Crower) Ford "Le Mans" cam for a 289, into a 11:1 342. Why? Because I can.. 1000.00 will buy a lot of Joe Gibbs or Brad Penn or whatever zddp additive.

The flush may be from old crap turning loose? Heater core would be my guess, maybe block rust? How old was it?

You don't have to buy the ZDDP forever. If the cam hasn't gone flat after 10,000 miles, it's not going to.

New heater core before the engine rebuild. 5,000 miles on engine and coolant.

Most of the big block cams I've had go flat did it around 20k, a couple went out right a way.

I'm with on the flat tappet cams Scott. I have over 20k on the one in the Chevelle (and its .550+ lift) and no problems. I do run the Valvoline VR oil though ....

I found an overflow tank that was in amazing shape in a 73 El Camino at the salvage a couple weeks back. I put it on today on the firewall where the regulator used to be. Works nice. A notch in it clears the AC hose connection too.

One thing fixed for when I want to drag race it. Need battery hold down and less rubber fuel lines to make it legal.
