If someone would've had a CWP in the movie theater.... sure, a few people might have been killed, but that physcopath would've been killed gladly.

No bait to take. This wasn't some damned Steven Segall movie where everybody neatly moves aside sobthe hero can take a shot and kill the bad guy. This was a room full of smoke and people freaking out trying to get the hell out. To play "what if" with this tradegy is ridiculous and pointless in my opinion.Originally posted by Speedzzter.blogspot View PostTaking the bait . . .
Maybe, maybe not. With proper tactical training, I'd be willing to bet this guy could be outflanked while he's focused on other targets (he was a freakin PhD student, not a professsional). And given how most modern stadium seating theaters are arranged, his field of fire probably couldn't cover the whole thing at once.
Still, the real prevention is stopping the perp/terrorist from waltzing back in through the emergency exit unabated with his ninja getup and weapons on. That's the choke point.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

This evening they had the professional strength to say that was wrong. So what else is wrong? We only know something real bad happened.
But from the Warner Bros' perspective....now that this has happened, how many millions of people would go to watch the movie and know that when the shootout scene started (whatever it is), ...that's when the REAL shooting started? And play on people's minds?
Gosh, whatta mess. Initiated by one sole person on this earth. Don't lose sight of the fact that one single person did this.
Warner Bros had planned for a re carpet premiere in Paris tonight. Since those are generally celebrations and parties they decided to cancel it. I doubt tgis will stop people from seeing the movie this weekend.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

Our justice system is burdened by many things, including our on-going national debate over the death penalty, incarceration rates for drug offenses and other "non-violent" crimes, increasingly limited resources, and the systemic reactions (and overreactions) to events of excessive force, intrusiveness, and other overreaching by government in the past (and present).
No doubt we have an old, slow, complicated, and expensive justice system that lends itself to abuses and sometimes makes horrible mistakes. But its a false dichotomy to paint the options as a return to knee-jerk "Old West" vigilantism versus more of the status quo. I suspect there is a middle ground that affords due process, increases the didactic and preventative functions of the law and corrections (i.e. the timing and weight of consequences fitting the offense), reduces recidivism, and protects the innocent at a more reasonable cost in time and money to society.
nice statement of the obvious, your proposed solution is? I muck in the legal system every day; and I can tell you from the trenches that there isn't a person involved in the system who doesn't wish for better.... however, until you can read another person's motive, you're stuck with this imperfect system.
systems which punish the crime rather then prevent the crime from happening will always have problems. And the only way to prevent crimes is to be God and know what a person's motive truly is....Last edited by SuperBuickGuy; July 20, 2012, 04:40 PM.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

The cops and especially the press don't have their shit together about the perp who did this yet. It'll take some days. We'll know sooner or later what happened.
But on the day we know, it'll still not make sense to any of us humans who value life.Charter member of the Turd NuggetsComment

It's NOT going to happen to us, by numbers. One deranged person did this. ONE.Originally posted by Chassisman View PostBack in June we were in Denver for a junior dragster race.... And he's in custody, it's over.
It's safe. Go outside. Go to a movie. He's in jail.
What am I trying to say? One guy.
I'm sorry. Part of the poorly reported story during the day was the discombulated officials stating that "this was not an act of terrorism."
Of course it was. It doesn't have to be from some country we already don't like, but terror is terror. The fear that an isolated act will happen again.
That's terror. I don't buy it. I don't, I'm sorry, but I don't.
I'm gonna live, I don't care who else chooses to in the wake of this. But I'm gonna live.Last edited by pdub; July 20, 2012, 05:25 PM.Charter member of the Turd NuggetsComment

Thank you for saying that, P - saved me the trouble.
I mean - c'mon - does your wife not go to the beach?
People have died in that sea water, ya know?
Folks have died on the streets that she drives on - does she get sick when driving them?
People have died in hospitals - does she not visit the sick there?
C'mon, man. I don't mean to bag on your wife, but life goes on.Last edited by studemax; July 20, 2012, 05:21 PM.Act your age, not your shoe size. - PrinceComment

No she understands that.....just in my former career there were alot of close calls...and the flood of old memories caught her today. One of my good friend lives in Bennett,Co and was chating with my wife about going last night to watch it(She's the one who took us there in June)....her and her husband didnt as they bought tickets for the Mopar NHRA race tonight at Bandimere. So I think that compounded the situation a bit too.....Originally posted by studemax View PostThank you for saying that, P - saved me the trouble.

It's not quite that easy in my mind Stude. First let's re-say that the whole thing in CO was a tragic event... I can't imagine the trauma because we weren't there.Originally posted by studemax View PostThank you for saying that, P - saved me the trouble.

But .... let's not let that defeat us all, emotionally. The big picture. The bigger picture.
I refuse to give up. If I give up, then we're all beat. Because I'm hanging on harder than the rest. At least I'm trying to.
I ain't giving up. What was it, ....chocolate milk and sunshine? I dunno.

I will walk the streets with my head high, without blinders, but a wary eye... I will show no fear tho my knees are weak.. I will walk with purpose in as straight as a line as I can do..
But said better in an 1800's poem:
Invictus....
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

"I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."
From all of that, and that's all good, I don't quite buy into those last two lines.

True, fate has a way of being cruel and leaving you twisting in the wind, BUT with YOU as master of your fate you will do all to keep from twisting in the wind..

I'm sure as hell not gonna run around being scared. F*ck that. Do I think this could happen anywhere at any time? Yes, because there's crazies everywhere, but I do what I can to protect my life should the situation arise. Words I try to live by: "The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid." -Marko Kloos.Who needs sugar and spice and everything nice?
