It does. Like around 5mpg more.

I think the 4x4 mags pointed that out, can't remember which one... it was a 'of the year' test I think.

i have had great luck (knock on wood :) with my 04' escape v6. had it since new. change the mobil one every 10,000 miles. it rides, handles, runs hard, fast (for a small suv), gets good gas milage, hasn't had anything go bad on it, has room to haul stuff. 90,000 miles and still going ;D worst i can say about it is the seats suck on long distance runs.

The Ford Fusion seems to be a good car. We don't get many in the shop for anything other than routine maintenance.

when you have a good platform, isn't it smart to use it? economy of scale. that's why you get so much in the escape, for a reasonably price. maybe GM should try it. maybe they wouldn't be going bankrupt. (just kidding. don't send a letter bomb).
if I was in charge, i would use the same door handles, control nobs, steering wheels, rims, etc. where i could, across the line. besides economy of scale, they would have to warehouse less parts and have less part numbers, which would require less personnel to enter into the computer. save on a lot of little cost can result in a big overall savings.

well , that be great,, but you forget. why .they left those ideas in the 80's
aftermarket parts from overseas..
if you make one part. (door handle) it makes it cheaper for the copykats, to build a replacement part.. in china./etc
and under sell the factory replacement part.. even more than they do now..
also.. that thinking has brought . factories to a grinding hault.. if a vendor. has any type of issue..
like a fire at a plant..
most factories. use the "just in time" parts ordering system..
if they make every model use the same headlight switch.. and the vendors has an issue..
what happens???????????
the big three learned this in the 80's..
if a parts tooling breaks, thats used across the lines.. you're S.O.L.

Here is my list I am a Ford guy but will bw honest

1)99 grand an 4cl. my moms car got it new it has only needed brakes tires and a A/C compressor in 130,000 miles

2)01 Silverado I had it for 3 years and only needed tires and brakes traded it in at 135,000

3)99 Ranger v6 2wd Dad got it new then I bought it from him and later traded it in on the Chevy 140,000 just tires and brakes.

4)00 F250 power stroke work truck was great until 175,000 then it needed front end rebuilt and a tranny rebuilt

Now here is the bad my 2008 f250 power stroke 39,000 miles and has had the steering box replaced, a oil leak, and the radiator cracked. I am a ford guy but this is bull shit

IH certainly hasn't done us many favors with the 6.0 - but overall the 6.4's seem to be doing pretty well.

I just swapped injectors in a '99 7.3 with over 214k - runs like a new truck now, but the injector rebuild cost was $1250!

Not sure what injectors cost for the 6 or 6.4.... but with all the stuff under the hood of a 6.4 and the fact that you have to pull the cab off the frame to do anything serious.... makes me think whenever I trade up - it will be to the last of the 7.3 SDs!
