    Re: Crane Cams rumors...

Bad news. I've used Crane stuff exclusivly since I started really hacking on cars and have always been rewarded with reliable parts. I have a set of Crane springs under the bench - single w/damper - that made 1916 documented passes down a drag strip and they still test to spec. I'm keeping my Crane catalogs anyway, dammit.

Duh, the Falcon 67 name, you run a Ford, so the 99837 makes sense. The 99846 is the H-11 tool steel spring for small block Chevys with stock spring pockets. One of the best springs on the market, guys have run them for years, a good design by Harvey Crane and his R&D guys back in the day.

I worked a lot with the valvespring and retainer line when I was there in 2002-2004.

I'm disappointed to hear the rumor was real; I've met some of the Crane guys on a couple different occasions. Just a year ago they had been thinking expansion, at least in some departments.

Yeah, that talk was total smoke and mirrors.

Actually, the expansion of their product line I'd heard about was in the planning stages and apparently the guy in charge of the project either quit or was fired. The one I was thinking of wasn't really far along enough to publicize.

That person was Mark Campbell, he was fired just before PRI 2007. Mark was the head of R&D. Yes, there was a plan, but there was no way to implement the plan because the company had no invesment capital, an no credit to speak of, to bring the product line back to life.

Back in the late 80's my father's shop was involved in some R&D work for another firm. Small block valve, and lifter
developement. Crane Cams was very helpfull to these guys. I hope they get 'er reorganized.

The cranecams website doesn't make any mention of this - interesting.

That site hasn't really been updated in over a year. It was another cluster project of the former CEO.

understood - I wonder long it will take before the inventory is sold out and all the "real" crane stuff is gone...

I'd been talking to a different guy who was at PRI 2007, but left shortly thereafter. What you say doesn't surprise me, though.
