Hard to fathom, ain't it? I try to correct the little buggers, but they grew up hearing it. I'm think of teaching the Grandkids that doggies go "MEOW" and kitties go "WOOF" - just to mess with their kindergarten teachers. The parents probably won't stand for it, though.

Get a pair of mittens out of a hunting dept. They open so you can use your fingers ,but are 2xs warmer than gloves.

Don't forget the wind chill factor. seriously, 2 degree with the wind blowing is nothing to take lightly, very easy to get frostbite. I'll feel like it's 10 below 0! I'll recommend mittens. Don't laugh, they'll keep your fingers warm way better then any glove can.

Hey, they're predicting a low of 1degree for Friday's low in northern NJ.

I'm from NC, and I just figured a beanie was what the cool kids were calling them now. I always thought a beanie was the little hat that French guys wore. Grew up calling them toboggans, but they were always ugly knitted things Grandma would make with a big puff ball on top.

As far as long johns go I have the answer, company called Duofold makes a union suit, woolon the out side cotton next to the skin, very warm,no gaps when you lean over and yes, they have a flap in the back ;D,actually it's a vertical slit,I own three medium weight pairs and one light weight, medium is good to about 15 below actual. I loaded coal in Vincennes In. this morning and it was zero jeans,a henley,a chamois shirt and light jacket and of course a touk and I was good, the layers are in case you get active and start to sweat you can peel off a layer,in that weather the sweat will freeze on your body a put you in hypo-thermia quicker,so pace yourself ! OH YEAH,you can get the duofold from L.L. Bean for $30 a pair !

I'm a wee-bit south west of Wisconsin, but
WELCOME TO THE GREAT WHITE HEARTLAND!!

My wife just made the comment "I bet he's just singing and dancing with F'n joy!!!"

Buddy called, said in CHicago today, some area with the winds {Damn, can this be correct?!?!WTF!} was getting in the -60 degrees with the windchill. Standing temp was -14 degrees. I was pissed at my truck this morning as it did not want to fire up...we had -15 degrees last night here in Omaha.

The clothing thing, been said...but myself, I wear two pairs of good socks, jeans, a long sleeve shirt, a good sweat shirt, and my insulated coveralls, insulated hiking boots. Good thinsulate headgear. If it's freaking butt-ass cold, I have good ski goggles if I need them. Glasses are a PITA in the cold.
Mittens are better than gloves, it's better to keep the fingers bunched together in the cold unless you have GOOD gloves.

I managed to snap the gas pedal mount on my truck yesterday, but it still hasn't been fixed yet. In this freaking weather, F it. Next tuesday, it's going to be in the low 50's here.

Where are you gonna be Freiby? It's supposed to be balmy this weekend, twenty's and thirty's. Tee shirt and sandals weather lol, at least compared to tonight's -21. Factor in some 25 mph winds and you're feeling -45. I'm not sure what you're coming here to see, other than ice races maybe. Give me a shout if you are in the southern half of the state, I'll buy you a few of Milwaukee's finest.

Been on the road all week in Mich, Ohio, Penn, and W Virginia. It ain't pretty so DON'T DRIVE if you can help it. People up here that are used to driving in the winter are spinning out all over the place. Saw two rollovers personally.

Anything that looks like water on the roads is NOT water, its ice. Keep in mind that salt does not work below 10-15*F so it is SLICK.

Definitely cover your face if you plan to be out all day. Wear mittens instead of gloves if you can -- or at least have mittens available to warm up the fingers. Most important, stay dry -- if you sweat or get wet somehow you're kind of screwed.

A guy in the Detroit area died too -- 41 years old, slipped and fell off his deck and froze to death. Must have hit his head or something.
