If I was on the left side of the country I'd drill and spin all of your safety wire just to be involved with this project. Thanks for the updates!

Yep, those injectors could have been a game ender. Talked to Stacy yesterday and he had 3 of them working correctly now, one is pickling in some cleaning fluid and he'll if he can get it unstuck today. If not, I'll need to pick up another one.
I agree, safety wiring done competently is great to look at. I guess I can only increase my competency by doing it again and again.
I had a couple of buddies drop by on their way back from Knott's. Sounds like everyone had a great time, and there was quite a turnout. I wonder if Scott took pics this year.I'm still learningComment

Safety wire is one of my few auto/motorcycle-related competencies. I think I can do safety wire with my eyes shut, and have it look perfect now. Years of practice.

I use to figure, one bolt-one drill bit. Then I changed to using "centering bits" which have a small drill pilot with a large shank. Most of the jigs just flat suck. So I tend to make one for each job, frequently its just softwood with the bolt or nut pressed into to it and then held with the drill jig.
The bits I use look like these:
They only work because I'm usually using metric socket head bolts. I can't find anything at a 12.9 rating in metric that isn't a socket head.Last edited by Bob Holmes; April 23, 2013, 12:25 PM.I'm still learningComment

Bummer, one injector still no bueno.
So, another $100 bill to burn. Good thing I don't have a V8...I'm still learningComment

The second great thing about being displacement limited. Great hp/cid ratio and low injector count!
On a serious note, what would cause them to stick like that? One is a random fluke, but three out of four screams out there is a root cause that could probably/should be fixed.Escaped on a technicality.Comment

crappy gas, old age, dead or dying magnets.... it's cool he got 3 working, I've had injector shops want to replace all of them simply because the flow was down 10% on one injector (and no, I don't use them anymore)Originally posted by TheSilverBuick View PostThe second great thing about being displacement limited. what kind of injector are you looking for?Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

E85 has an affinity for water. I decided to have them checked when I noticed rust spots on the inlet side of the injector. My conjecture is that letting them sit for three years, with a fuel that likes water, caused rusting within the injector. Perhaps this wouldn't have occurred if we had flushed the injectors (although we certainly didn't know that the engine was going to sit that long...) or used a fuel lube with the E85.
I'll get a replacement identical RC Engineering 1000cc injector. (Thanks if that was an offer to look around for a replacement.)
