T5 is off to the rebuilder tomorrow.

Yeah, I wanted to do it myself, but I'm running out of time.

what is this "rebuilder" thing you talk about? is that some bloke who tells you that everything you have is crap, but for $25,999.95 they can fix it for you? typically, I don't call them rebuilders (I tend to call them hack, thief, ja***ss)

          Oh ye of little faith...

$300, he's a friend of mine that runs a shop called "Evil Genius" in West Sacramento. He's also the chief inspector for the LeMons series of $500 crap can races and flies all over the country running a big part of that gig. He's stuck a snowmobile engine in a Miata, V8s in Volvos, an Audi 5cylinder turbo in the middle of a micro-van, and designs on a Nash Metropolitan. He loaned me the Volvo head to mock up on my Ford Block.

He is a great guy and stands behind his work.

So no, he's not the local Pontiac dealer telling you what you can do with your GTO...

Sprayed the cam cover "wrinkle black." Looks like its going to be "purdy."

right, he suckers you in with alleged knowledge and skill - then sells you a Pontiac with a warranty. They all work the same, and they're all in cahoots

                  Transmission dropped off.

Made a deal to buy all his DOHC 4-valve Volvo heads and parts. That'll give me three heads; one to cut into pieces, one to leave stock and one to port the hell out of.

Uh oh, they might all be in cahoots...

Long block is done, cam timing is dealt with. Have to chase down some new ARP washers for the head bolts, they didn't come back with the head.

I'll pull the turbo and manifold off the shelf and get it ready to go and prep the intake manifold.

                        Nice progress!

I hate when parts don't come back from the machine shop.

I once brought in a set of heads completely disassembled, just bare heads and valves. The guy looked at my like - wtf is this? I said I was going to get all new hardware anyway, and did some home porting before bringing the heads in for the valve job. It was as if I had taken parts out of his private stash ... that was the last time I dealt with that shop - I later found out they passed off a lot of used parts as new / rebuilt.
There's always something new to learn.

I'm ashamed to say that I painted an intake manifold today. Again, I blame Randal...I'm going to make an emergency trip to John Beck's this weekend and sniff some Nitro. Should stop this in its track.
