To answer your question and Brian's, the NHRA tradition has always been to alter the rules to slow the cars (go back to Wally an Arfons...).

What do you mean by "fix the track"?

Giving them a much longer shutdown area. Some tracks sand pits are about the size of large bunkers on golf courses.

Would you build a bridge over the street at the end of Pomona Raceway, or would a tunnel under the street be more effective?

Arfons just got relegated to exhibition status, but I do understand your point.

What JUST smacked me upside the head is that this is the modern nitro ban. That worked so long as everyone went along with it. When Lions and other tracks that still allowed the stuff began to show big financial gains from it, voila, the NHRA allowed it again.

Since there is no sanctioning body or large number in indie tracks that can challenge NHRA, I don't see how they get around this...especially with the insurance company. Once you go to the shorter distance will you be able to sell the insurance company on more sand and better catch nets to justify going back?

They could do better than what they got. Alot better. My uncle has happened to race fuel cars, and that's coming from him, over the years...

Agreed, and engine usually can be made to make more power (especially a boosted one) just at what cost to durability. Hence instead of making 1325' the limit, 1005' becomes the limit and HP is turned up a tad. Commercial engines are rated similarly, HP vs. Durability.

If the track is unsafe running a 1/4 mile, then don't race at that track. Simple! Pomona could be fixed by moving the tower and buying the land that the taco stand behind the tower is on.

Well - I guess if that track no longer met the minimum safety standard, it would cease to be a sanctioned track.
