No offense I knew you were a given. I was just hoping to scout ahead and get a feel for what all will be needed.Originally Posted by Devil

we didn't mean to scare the wife off, just wanted to make sure she knew what she was getting into. part of my wifes problem was the car we took. it was cramped and i wanted the top down everyday and she couldn't ride like that everyday, so she was not happy most days. i just bought a 1947 ford 2 door for the tour in 09, my wife is not going in 08 and i don't think i could get the ford ready by then anyway.
Two Dutch friends of mine want to run the '08 Tour.
They think of buying a car in the States, do the Tour and then ship the car over the Netherlands and sell it.
Driving the Tour sounds like fun to me, although I would rather do a East-West tour than the 'North-South"-route actually.
I have been and will continue to camp for Power Tours unless we go by a military base. Its so much cheaper and usually in state parks its very nice and peaceful till around 0630 when everyone starts up thier cars, can't think of a better wakeup call.

How many days should you allow for the tour?Originally Posted by squirrel
When we did tour last year, due to holiday time/kids etc-we didn't get into Cleveland until Saturday later, and missed alot of the days events. Also we were tired from the ride. This year we are leaving an extra day or two earlier and giving an extra day to recope/clean up car etc on the way home.10 days I figure.Worth every effort needed,we met alot of great people, got to see some areas driving that we normally would not get to.
The tour itself is 7 days. Drive time to and from beginning/end has to be factored in also. I like to get to the kickoff city a day early, and when it's over a full day of not sitting in something thats moving and has to be shifted is nice.

Tour is 8 days long, depending on how far away you are, that adds more days in travel then add any days you want to spend with others along the way there and back.

My buddies and I have decided that this year we will come over from the UK to do the tour for the 1st time, we have purchased a 1962 Catalina and cant wait. As it has been stated the tour is what you put into it. We have plenty of car shows over here in the UK so if we don't make the days show we wont be to bothered. For us its all about meeting people and seeing some of America we wouldn't normally see.
You and your buddys will have a blast Cheif. But its too bad your miss the wide open highways of the rest of the USA since HRM is keeping the tour in the east. I personally dont like big crouds and crouded highways so I have been staying away from the tour for a few years but if it ever goes cross country again im in in a heartbeat.
