    double blower

On you-tube there is 70 GTO with a double blower setup. Is that thing a real hot rod or just for show. I know it runs but haven't seen it do anything other than idle around.

    Re: double blower

I've seen old photos of dragsters from the 60's with two GMC blowers stacked on top of each other. I was also wondering the benefit of this. I guess it's probably like dual stage supercharging where the first blower compresses the air/fuel mixture, then the second blower compresses the already compressed mixture even more for even more boost??? Does this sound right or am I off base?

could work that way....seems like the air would get kinda warm though

I could only see this working in an alcohol motor.....2 blowers would create a ton of heat....especially with 2-Stage compression....

Go feel the air compressor tank after it has been running a while....

Alcohol could reduce the heat drastically...

          Re: double blower

I think I saw a spot in CC or HR back when they used to do cruise-in "hometown" spots on a dragster that did the stacked blowers saying it made the same boost, just got there faster. Honestly being positive displacement devices that wouldn't make much sense unless you ran them slower. Every roots style system has a spot where the rotors move fast enough to keep them sealed against the case but not so they are really squeezing the air so hard the adiabatic effiecency drops dramatically. I could see spinning them slower and getting the same boost with more effeciency on the setup if you kept them both in the range but it sounds more trouble than it would be worth getting it setup right.

Different setups, this is I beileve that same GTO with the blowers stacked on top of one another not side by side which is like early multi carb setups, just an attempt at getting more blower on the motor.

Not sure where, but I think I remember reading that the GTO only had the lobes in one of the blowers. The other had the front and rear gear setups with the pulley and belt, but was and empty case.

From what I know of the car is it has made some low 10 sec. passes at the track. They did a article on it for PHP magazine a while ago. It does look weird but people are doing similar things with the 03-04 cobras. Theyre using a turbo to feed the stock eaton S/C and making crazy power with it.
