Do you run a PCV valve? I still run one on the chevelle (only 7100 rpm thru the lights) and have no issues with blow by, etc... I think it helps evacuate the crank case.

Yes I run one, and it work's fine under normal driving conditions and loads. But a good run up of sustained high rpm will yield oil on the valve cover under the breather because there isn't much vacuum pulling on the PCV at that point.

Randal - I'll have to entertain that fuel pump block off plate breather Idea on the ranger - with the modern valve covers I don't have a hole for a breather on one side, just the fill on the other.

I'd just go for a vent in the PCV location if you are going to vent the valley. It'll be less likely to pick up oil off of the timing chain. Put the PCV in the valve cover like a Chevy and use the vent hole in the back of the manifold as a vent.
Are you still running a valley pan gasket or the individual Felpros?

I did a tube on the rear lifter cover on the six. Engines with a separate valley pan can probably use a similar system but it might be too high in the engine architecture to solve the potential problem. Anyhow, I used a length of 1 1/2" conduit and cut slots with a hack saw at about 45 degree angles into the pipe. Then I slipped sheet metal into the slits and welded the sheet metal to the tube. Viola - baffles! The 1 1/2 conduit (or was it 1 1/4?) fits a standard breather.

But then I'm still in the same boat and venting capacity. I run the stock valley pan. I'm hoping to be able to baffle the backside of the block off plate to minimize the oil loss.

John, I was thinking more about the Gessler stuff. I've had my heads apart for the porting work I did, the seats all looked even, or at least nothing grossly different between each, certainly not like those picture :o And for the fuel pump block off plate, just sharing the knowledge from Keith and DF. Hope it applies to my application and yours.

                  Oh I forgot to add.

I cleaned up the driver's side head and deck and set the head back on the deck. I couldn't find my feeler gauges > (I haven't used them since I set the points in my T-bird, which has had a pertronix now for a few years... anyways) I couldn't "see" a wave or gap between the two. I'll probably pick up a new set of feeler gauges tonight or tomorrow when I go back to the store to pick up some more scotch brite pads to clean the passengerside head and deck.

shine a bright flashlight or light at the back side of the straight edge, then look for light from the front side.

It's amazing how much quicker paint dry's when the temps are in the 80's versus teens :P Got the valve covers and oil pan all stripped of paint and repainted. Got all the gasket surfaces all cleaned up. Through out next week I'll get the timing cover and intake cleaned up and get the block and heads cleaned up and re-painted.

you interrupt the in depth discussion of how to appropriately label the rebuild by rattle to bring up such useless tripe like whether or not the head will seal to the block? really, what do you think this site is about? ;D ;D ;D

I like the concept of an ozone overhaul.... it's so much easier and you don't have to find a straight edge.

Bought what I "thought" was a straight edge, that effectively was a bowed edge. Useless ace hardware junk. Wasn't flat against the deck, two house windows, the coffee table or the washing machine. POS. > If I get around to the hardware store again I'll see what else they have.
