Thanks. I'm not the only one around here thinking it's coming soon. The temperature has been dropping quite a bit, plus we've been getting rain, and the rain can't last with the temperature drops :'(

But where I got this afternoon. I have the surge can/pipe mounted. I have the high pressure fuel pump strapped down pretty good right next to it. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with it there yet, but it'll get me on the road and time to think more about it. I've wrapped it in a bit of my old radiator hose. I have to figure out where to place the second fuel filter. I'll probably go to Napa tomorrow and check out the filter selection. I wonder how well it'll work between the TBI pump and the surge can.... It'd be easier for sure.

Pulled this colorful thing off one last time to prep the gasket and head surface for actually bolting it down.

The intake is finally bolted down. Most the vacuum lines hooked up. That's the new radiator hose. It has to be trimmed down some so it's sitting a bit tall right now.

    Things left to do:
I need one coupler and fitting for the return line, I'm waiting for the parts store to restock them. I'll run all the rubber fuel lines tomorrow, between the pressure regulator and firewall return line, then the lines to the surge can/pipe, and then finally the pressure side of the high pressure pump to the fuel rail. Then fit a filter in there some where.

Problems I still have to solve:
The aftermarket throttle cable I had snapped the threads at the firewall > And neither parts store in town carries them. So I may try something tomorrow to get it to work anyways.
My throttle cable bracket is a bit too tall, it doesn't let the air filter housing sit completely on the throttlebody. I haven't looked at it close enough to see if I can just shave a bit off the bracket to clearance it. Or maybe notch the filter housing with some small hammer taps ;D I might try a filter spacer, but I think that'll interfere with the hood.
The Radiator still could use some clearancing to sit lower. I clearanced one side and it dropped down quite a bit as I expected, but mostly on one the side I clearance :-\ So I'll look at modifying the drivers side as well to get it to sit lower.

    Getting close!

Good to see your progress. You're better about posting pics than I am - you young computer-savvy kids! Still, I do get by for an old fart.

Ya know, maybe it's just because I was in a hearing all day that dealt with port security; but I strongly suggest you do not let the boys at Homeland Security see the engine compartment of your car ;)

It's definitely getting there. I'd like to get a closer look at your engine set up. It's hard to see everything in the pics.

I can't believe you hid the pipe bomb way in the back of the engine compartment.

On a serious note, you may want to get rubber coated clamps for the fuel pump. That setup may vibrate.

If that is a fluid filled fuel pressure gauge, do yourself a favor and drain it. When the heat up, they do not show the correct psi (read low). You will crap your pants when you look and it shows there is only 30psi of fuel pressure or less.

Wow this is a lot of work.... you're convincing me that my beloved holley carbs will be my preferred method of fuel delivery for the immediate future anyway.... But I'm sure I'll be jealous of your MPG and laptop tunability when you're all done.

One thing I don't have to deal with here in the midwest is altitude changes - something you have to face with your long hauls.... which would make running a carb a bummer....

yeah, I'm thinking a 5 gal can bungied to the roof is a good fuel system! 2 ft of gravity feed is all you need.

I wounldn't want the NSA to get me ;) The 4" pipe is way less intrusive than the 6". I to expect the fuel pump to vibrate considerably. I'm hoping the holes in the strap have some bite into the rubber hose I have on there. No where in town I know of to get a good clamp with 2.75" diameter. :-\

Thanks for the heads up! I'll see how it behaves first but try not to freak if it drops when the engine warms up.

The TBI was way simpler to plumb and the swap would be way simpler I think if it were a more common engine that made it into the EFI era (SBC, SBF, etc) as the OEM's have fuel rails and fittings. Something that I realized it as I was bolting the surge can in is. The Carbon canister line is still there (hear me out), it's a 3/8th line that runs all the way back to the tank. And just before it gets to the tank the hard line has a break for a small length of rubber to the tank line. IF I had realized that I could of probably just used the carbon canister line as the return line and just of switched the rubber end from the tank vent to my return. Live and learn :P Some day if I move the surge can (or sump the tank) I might put the carbon canister back in (after all it serves a purpose...).

I had my fuel pressure set at 60 psi cold (crutching smaller injectors), then drove around, popped the hood and it was showing mid 40's!

I about flipped thinking the pump was dying or the filter was clogged, then I read they will do that... wheeeew.

I might end up crutching mine as well. The injector spec's @43psi put them right on the upper fring of the HP I'm hoping to make. Bumping it to 60psi should get me a comfy level of comfort.

might try an EFI 88-95 f150, that looks about the same size as the one on my frame rail.
That's where the pump is from, I wasn't smart enough to grab the clamp :P

I got a fair amount done today. Getting ever closer!

Here is a picture of my broken psuedo metal throttle cable. I swear I didn't even feel resistance when this thing snapped. >

Here is my fix. The cable has come out a little short, so I'll probably be replacing it down the road. I ground the top of the throttle bracket down a bit and now I have some clearance between it and the air filter housing. It didn't take much.

Tied up the return line using existing bolts. The non-shielded factory line there is the carbon canister line.

I used an existing hole here. In the middle of the picture you can see the carbon cansister line going to the right.

Wired up! I have to change the injector fuses to match. (the assortment packs only have one of each)

Modified the drivers side lower radiator support and got the BeCool radiator to drop down to where I can put the cover on it. I do have to drill new holes in the core to off set it to the right a bit, but I'm willing to do that.
