Re: The Silver Buick's well Silver Buick!

Cool Thanks Scott. I'm leaving the stock 3/8th pumbing, I'm not messing with that at all. That way all the fuel line upgrades will be short lengths (surge tank is going where the carbon canister was, same brackets ;D) My issues with the fuel pump is I need one that will get me at least 60 psi incase I upgrade, and "any" new electric pump starts at $100 for the stock Ford one (which I guess is still on the plate) to $250 for other random electric pumps (Holley, Edelbrock, Summit, etc.) and I might as well pony up for one that not only supports one of the site sponsors/advertisers, but also has a good reputation. My other issue is this is a street car that will be carving some corners and the EFI won't be happy with out a sump or surge tank, especially when low on fuel. My T-bird is plumbed with the stock mechanical fuel pump pumping to the TBI electric fuel pump until I do the same and get a surge tank for it and then the mechanical pump with feed the tank. I found the car even idled with the electric pump turned off just off the mechanical pump pressure :P but I also ran into it stumbling on turns when the tank is low.

    * It's 8*F out, and NAPA opens soon and should have my paint.

I think the instructions on the paint can say you can't apply it unles it's over 12 degrees F

Everything is out in the sun right now, forecast high 44*F. Might "aid" it a bit with a light brush of a propane torch just prior to application. Won't get much better than this until Summer. Currently about 25*F.

Randal - have you ever tried POR engine paint?

I like it allot - you brush it on - but it's THICK - not sure you'd get it to flow in those kind of temps - probably a good idea to wipe down the block with some acetone / prop solvent or something before paint - leave the paint inside the house until you need it - and get the block warmed up some how......

how big is that toaster oven?

              Guys (all of us)

Let's go to Randal's this summer for a barn raising party. We can have him a shop in a week. I'm in! Going in that general direction for Speed Week so I can make the trip a week or so longer.

Re: The Silver Buick's well Silver Buick!

Hey, I like where this is going! After these pictures of moving the Skylark today it'll be even more reason :P

So I went ahead and painted the engine and stuff today. It was bright and sunny and got into the 40's. I also gave it some heat with the propane torch. Using four or five thin coats to dry quicker I think it turned out pretty good.

I also took the new pinion to a local machine shop (not an automotive one, farm and driveline stuff) to have the bearing surface shaved by .001". They said it was little more than a polishing so they didn't charge me, sweet. Also took the old pinion to the local auto shop I deal with to have the bearing pulled off it (the machine shop wanted to cut it off), had it off in five minutes and didn't charge me either, Sweet!

I towed the Skylark out from the backyard on my own as well. Even in four wheel drive the Jeep had traction issues, but I got it done. FedEx also failed to deliver the leaf spring shackle bushing and pad kit today. I got an e-mail around 11am saying it's been delivered and yet I was home with nothing :-\ Not the first time, nor the second time they have delivered my packages to some one elses house. So I called them up and got the "We'll call the despatch to try and get ahold of the carrier...blah blah blah" line. Few hours later I get a call from a Neighbor five houses down who was at work saying there was a package for me on their door step. Third different house they've delivered my things to, last time it was my Laptop in the box :o All the addresses on the boxes have been right. :-\ I called back to tell them I found my package and filed a complaint (giving the three other addresses I've been delivered too). Eh rant over, on to Pictures!

                      First round of painting:

Something about an engine with Head Studs sticking out I find appealing.

One of the heads on, no gaskets, this is just for painting.

                      Masked up again.

A set of used sparkplugs. After this picture I placed the timing cover on it and did finer painting around the front.

Painted up the pullies, timing cover, water pump and thermostat housing. I went with aluminum paint on the T-housing because I didn't like the red it was against the aluminum Performer intake, so I'm trying this out.

Remember when I said it was starting to get too heavy to pull out of the car port? I found and exceeded the weight limit of my wore out asphalt drive way. Now the engine is limited to concrete carport duty.

Now I'm going to post some pictures of pulling the Skylark out.

Ok all the snow shovelled out. I had to move the trailer back, which required it's own snow removal :P You can see the Thunderbird with a pile of snow on it as well hiding back there.

                        Bring in the Jeep!

Trailer hitch to trailer hitch. I knew I left that on there for a reason. Hope that bumper doesn't pop off :P

Traction was limited, finally broke the ice on the tires free and out of the rut I intentionally parked it in to chock the wheels.

Like threading a needle. Backing that trailer through there was fun too.

I put a grill in there so it would be presentable out front. Getting close to the trailer, but still clear.

It's out front! I switched to a less desirable grill incase it gets damaged while working on it.

All the cars are back in place.

                        Oh yeah, my FedEx undelivery:

is there room on your lot for a garage?

what about just enclosing your carport - and pouring a concrete approach to the carport so you won't run into this
                          "equipment sinking into driveway" issue.

Reminds me of a time in highschool when friends and I were pulling an engine from a monte - on an inclined asphalt driveway - bad bad bad idea....

we actually broke the vertical portion of the cherry picker! I'll never do that again!

What's the zoning in your 'hood - could you build out the carport closer to the fence line and enclose it?
Can you go back with the garage (I'm thinking even a two car nose to tail arrangement that's enclosed insulated, heated and well light is a huge step from where you are now......)

For land? I own another 100ft past the chain link fence. My friend is a backhoe operator at the mine and this summer I'm going to be renting a back hole and terracing the ground. There will be a drive way ramp on the left. I figure there will be about a five or six foot drop I'll do in two steps with stairs going down around where the hole in the fence is. The lot down there is 60'x100' and standard no building with in ~4' of the property line.

That's my jeep back there. You can kind of see a white pole in front of the jeep, that's my "guesstimate" of the property boundary. I'll get it officially surveyed this summer.

The weather is so hard on concrete here and asphalt is relatively cheap. I'm thinking as long as I have a concrete floored garage and a concrete pad out in front of the garage my driveway can remain asphalt. But you never know...
