Re: Car Junkies in the neighborhood

There is a guy at the at the end of the main drag through the front half of the neighbor hood with an old Ford, mid 70s, truck that looks to work on it and a Mustang/Corvette guy on the same street. In my cul-de-sac there is a offroad guy that looks to do his own stuff but recently its just been a dirt bike. I have a punk across the street who revs but never rides his bling crotch rocket. I think the guy on the corner might be a mild 4th Gen F-body guy and I've seen a collection of C4 Corvettes and 3rd Gen F-bodies around the corner but thats really it in my neighborhood, no one other than Mexicans comes to see me working on the car and they want me to fix thier cars for them and tell them no because its too much of a liablity and not worth my time.

Within a mile of my house there are a ton of fast and interesting cars. There's a guy who owns a 5.0 Mustang with a Paxton that goes high 11's, another 5.0 on spray in the 10's, a fella with a really nice Camaro and a 442, another with a Camaro with 540/Tremec setup, a HAMB'er type with a 32 fiberglass roadster and a 30 all-steel coupe he's currently doing, another guy with an 80's Camaro that is abused with much relish (to everyone's enjoyment), a guy with a really smooth 53 Chevy pickup, a 67 Cougar, a 68 Mustang, and a few that I don't know who owns them. I love my neighborhood.

This is cool! One of the things I always looked forward to in having a house was having neighbors. I totally lucked out when I moved in next to George.

Seems like most of us are amongst good company in our respective 'hoods.

Re: Car Junkies in the neighborhood

In my neighborhood? I wish. I did run into a guy at a show last year that lives a couple miles from me. He lives in a very well to do neighborhood and has a GS, a Chevelle, a 442 and a Firebird. I live in a decidedly not well to do neighborhood and don't even have a garage. I've talked to him on the phone a few times but thats it.

I have a couple friends that are into cars. One has a 56 and a 53 Buick. Neither run. He's kinda a hamb type but doesn't really care about performance. He rarely goes to any shows and has no interest in going to the drags with me. The other guy has a bunch of cars. None run. His favorite thing to do is collect parts. He will on rare occasion go the the track with me.

So for all intents and purposes, I'm a loan wolf. It would be nice to have someone to do the street and strip thing with though.

All alone here. There seems to be tons of cool cars in my area but I haven't spent enough time at cruise nights to get to know anyone. I live in a small neighborhood with no junkies.

The young guy across the street from me is into tuners and that's it around here (I live out in the country). I am fortunate enough to have a local guy (about 8 or 10 miles from me) that is into AMC's. Best of all he has a junkyard with about 100 AMC's in it...

There are a couple in my neighborhood.

The rich guy down the street owns two 308 Ferraris from the 70s. There is also a guy with 2 F-bodies down the street. A third gen and a fourth gen.

We also have a chrysler employee who just brought home a brand new orange SRT8 Challenger. But he doesnt actually work on his cars. And i went to high school with his daughter (who i dont really like) so i would never ask for a ride.

But there is one guy who has a 50s Buick that is slowly coming together.

Re: Car Junkies in the neighborhood

My next door neighbor and I grew up together, so naturally we both got into the same things. First it was model cars, then dirt bikes, then cheap beater trucks started showing up when we were getting our licenses. Now we are deep into Ford trucks, he currently has a '95 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 longbed with 460/5speed, and an '83 F350 regular cab 4x4 with 460/5speed that he is building into a show truck (powder coated frame, perfect black body, etc.) I currently have my '79 Ford 2wd 460 truck, my 05 F150 DD, and my old woods beater Bronco. Between the two of us we have owned 20+ Ford trucks over the years (I'm 26, he's 24). Yes, we are car... err... truck junkies, of the BBF type.

Besides us, my uncle lives behind my neighbor's house and has been wrenching on and improving his '72 Chevy 2wd longbed for about 10 years now. Its a super nice truck and is his primary mode of transportation (in the summer anyway, PA salt would kill that thing in a heartbeat). It had a 327/4spd, but he just swapped to a 700r4 this summer. He is our resident Chevy expert (of the small-block variety).

Just down the street from us there is a guy with a pretty serious Chevy mud truck, and is currently building another. He has a whole slew of Chevy trucks sitting around that he uses for parts. A few more houses down is another guy with a cool driver '56 F100, a '79 F250 4x4, an immaculate '78 F100, and a '72 F350 dump truck that is fully restored and immaculate but just sits in his garage and collects dust.

A good friend of me and my neighbor has a pretty sick low-budget Dodge Cummins 4x4 pulling truck. This thing pulled 530hp/980tq on the dyno before his latest round of mods, and should make 600/1000+tq now. Suffocates motorists with all the smoke when he beats in on the street. He also has a paxton-charged Fox that has went 9.90's.

This is western Pa, afterall, so we are heavily truck-oriented. I know a few guys that mess with cars, but not many.

I am fortunate to work with a few car guys, even if there are only 25 people total in my building. My boss has 4 '80s Monte Carlos, (3 of them are SS's), and an '83 Caprice wagon (with slot mags!). One of my coworkers has a '97 Mustang with a Maximum Motorsports full suspension kit, subframe connectors, etc. Absolute blast to run on the street, even if the motor is completely bone stock. Another coworker is a Mopar nut, and has a beautiful '69 GTX 440/6pck with Aluminum heads, big cam, and set up great for the strip, but is too afraid to take it. He also just bought an Orange '08 Challenger SRT-8 that he is afraid to drive in the rain... Another coworker is in the middle of building a '57 Chevy Pro Street truck (will be big-block powered), and he just sold a '70's model pro street Chevy truck to fund the '57. Another Coworker just sold an immaculate '71 Monte Carlo (for $14k!) that he and his dad restored, and is looking for another project. The only problem is that we hardly get anything done at work because we are always talking about cars... ;)
                      Still plays with trucks....

There are a few people in my neighborhood who have old cars in their driveway or back yard. '70 NOVA, '72 PINTO that has a 5 lug rear end (V8 conversion?), a bone stock '77 VOLARE, '88 Z-28 and a '78 Trans Am. Unfortunately, none of them have moved an inch in 4 years or longer. If they are Car Junkies, they're not very motivated. :D

Guy two houses away has a t bucket, but I've never even talked to him, only seen him going down the driveway occasionally (and we're on 4 acre lots)

guy on the other side has a few old Fords that he works on sometimes, and his kid is on and off into VWs. I think they qualify as junkies....the welder and grinder and stuff get used pretty often, it's a nice relaxing sound at night
