    V-Dub Guys, Please Educate Me

    Is this cool?

Seems cean and cheap. The stock injection does not worry me too much. But can you get speed parts for the flat motor in the Squarebacks? How is it different than the Bug motor? Same trans and body pan? Does the Squareback have a Super Beetle front suspension in 73?

    Help.

    Is this kool??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-...QQcmdZViewItem

Some parts are available, strong runners cause their bigger. For anything mod, I'd put in the type I engine...bolts up. It has it's own body pan and it's own front suspension design. It has a beam, but different than the bug.

      poor car!

The kid next door has a squareback, I think they have the bus engine in it now? they went thru a few engines, being new to VWs. From my visits to watch progress, the car has been a total PITA.

My cousin drove a 73 Squareback all through high school and college. It is still the most reliable car he ever owned.

Yeah, he has the bus motor in it. From what i saw, he got it running pretty decent, but then he decided to mess up the body (the front sheet metal was all banged up from driving home from those parties...)

But he said WRX motors fit in those relatively easy, so maybe try that?

That's cool but.....the fast back you posted a while back I think would be better. The blue one is cool, but who wants to do the same thing as someone else. You would have lots a room for a mid engine ls6 and an autocraft trans.

                          There's another here:

It's not as solid, and needs an engine, but it's cheaper.

I've got a friend selling a '66 bug here in San Diego - he's moving to Japan and needs to offload it. It's got a nice, brand new 1835 w/dual 40mm webers. The suspension has been completely gone through, adjustable beam, disc brakes in the front, etc... It could be had for CHEAP, it's got lots of extra parts (including a case that's already been clearanced for a huge stroker crank). I can get contact info and pricing if you're interested.

Edit: The motor is bigger - it's a 1914. Here's a link to an ad for the car - I assure you he's flexible on the price.
