It's a "follow the current straight axle trend" car
I understand, Jim, but what makes it "not" a Gasser???

It's missing all the cues that would have made it a Gas-class car. Except the straight axle.
a front bumper and gold leaf on the doors???
not trying to be a SA just wanting to understand this Gasser thing that seems to pop up all the time and it has me totally confused - - - hell, maybe I should just stay confused

No, my suggestions would make it more of an early '70s street machine, which is closer to the direction of this car.
To be a Gasser it would almost have to be an earlier body style. The Gassers of the early '70s would have been lower overall and with tube chassis and with hardly any of the stock stuff that this Nova has. And I can't think of a historic precedent of a late X-body Gasser.

first of all, thanks for your reply and indulgence - - - one more question - - - "could this car have run in the Gasser class back then?"
COULD have, perhaps, if it had all the safety stuff. But it would have been no where near what other Gassers were doing at the time. Here's more what the Gas-class cars looked like by 1970:
perfect street freak , dudes built tons of chevy 2s like that , I like it
more like an early 1968 funy car
no rules
my buddy wants to do straight front axle on his spare 1957 bel air convertible
I like the car, but hate the paint color for some reason.
I'd say build it in the theme of a "Street Freak", something that would have prowled the street late at night looking for illegal street racing action.
I would paint it white, with vintage speed parts decals covering the rear quarter windows. Stock hood with a hole cut in it, tunnel ram with dual Holleys, and, of course, white headers peeking out from the wheelwells.
Leave the Cragars in the front, and gloss black steelies in the back, with some repro cheater slicks.
Simply put to do a Gas Class, Gasser, car it's about period correctness. Which that Nova is not doing. I agree with turning the nova into a 70's street machine as DF described. Hence, the period correct look that would make that car look right. Just my opinion...
