    Yep. I'm diggi'n the Carb'd Vortec ;),I'm going to be need'in one for my '87 Camaro(sorry for the slight hi-jack... :P)soon. Anyway,I alway's like the Air-Cooled VW's. I have a '63 Chevy Corvair 500 Coupe(2-Door 'post'-Sedan...)which I love(esspecially with a 4-Speed...) . ~OO6.

I'm so hooked, I've actually commited myself to getting things done again. My favorite car I own is now back in my shop and gettin stuff done. I peeled the body back off, had it blasted and I'm ready to do this thing. It will be at a car show sometime this year in black primer, running or not....that's my goal.
I made the frame out of 2x4 box and various round tube, highly modded Heidts front crossmember and the shortest Flaming river rack you can have made! It's a 4 bar and full air ride and discs all around. I'll be adding more as it comes.
It's hard not to imagine DF's supercharged 4.3 residing in there...

    I totally want it.

That project looks good. Mad fabrication skills are obviously present.

Why is there no love for the air-cooled engines? Don’t get me wrong engine swaps are always neat but a hopped up type 1 or type 4 air-cooled engine is way more interesting than a stock’ish 4.3 liter Chevy V6. VW bugs are elegant for there simplicity. I would think that with a few modern upgrades such as beehive valve springs, aluminum cylinder barrels, and ceramic coatings one could make a reliable simple powerful mill that weighed less than the original engine.

And while I’m on my soapbox I want to say that the bug, while a design from the ‘30’s, is not a throwback from the 30’s. Until recently how many modern cars got 30 mpg, had 4 wheel independent suspension, and a magnesium engine block? In my mind the bug was not just the product Ferdinand Porsche’s mind but an offshoot of the twisted genius that was endemic in Germany society at that time. I mean Porsche’s engineering contemporaries came up with some crazy stuff; ballistic missiles, jet aircraft, modern assault rifles, heavy tanks, hydrogen peroxide as a fuel, and my favorite nitrouse. I think that being a gearhead was a much more valued thing back then.

dpaqu....I cant argue with any of your statements, and I own several more VW's with stock and modified engines that I enjoy. I jus always wanted one with a V8 but needed seating for four yet...had I realized my kids would grow faster than I could wrench, I'da put the 8 in there. The 6 makes it more unique now and I like it.

Man you got good eyes to see those and recognize the cars.

Please keep us updated on your Bug's progress. It's one of the most unique projects I've seen in a long time.
