OUCH! Sounds like you need to take a vacation to heal up.I broke the first metatarsal on my right foot last year, also. Dropped a 4-jaw chuck off a 25" lathe on it, and the steel toe boots didn't help any at all, missed the toe and landed on the center of my foot. When I showed up for work the next morning, the boss just stared at me and shook his head. I have a high tolerance for pain. I should know, having 'sanded' the ends of my fingers off a few times, tore one off completely, shot myself with nailguns a few times, been run over by a car, and hit by lightning. I guess I lead a charmed life.

i must admit, i stuck a screwdriver clean through my hand not to long ago...
and i had a ambulance ride from joliet a few weeks ago..almost lost my leg from the knee down.
i'm not going into any of here but, lets just say......i've had my share.
so i have the (or so i think) right to make fun.
it's all good.....be safe out there.
Here's one that will make all of you feel better. Thankfully, it didn't happen to me. When I was in high school my buddy and I were in the weight training room getting ready to do bench presses. Bill was talking a mile a minute. He was so excited because his girlfriend let him get to second base that past weekend. He was describing the whole bloody date to me as he was putting the weights on the bar bell. Bill was so involved in his story, he wasn't even watching what he was doing. He was trying to put a 45 pound plate on the bar and thought it was on when he let go of it. Well, it wasn't on the bar and the plate dropped straight down on his foot. I heard the crack it made when it hit his foot and the sound that he made one second later. Two sounds I don't want to hear again in my lifetime.
I walked with him as the paramedics rolled out to the ambulance along with the gym teacher. The gym teacher kept asking me if I was alright and I kept saying yes. Then he asked why I was limping. I guess it was what I saw. I limped for the rest of the day.

Thanks, Rebel, you reminded me of one...
Senior year HS ('01), was setting up a leg press. I was a showoff, so I was setting it real heavy. Had a random guy helping me put the 100-lb weights on, so I didn't tweak my back. We were setting the final weight group up when the teacher calls out, "Hey, Williams!"..
Kid you not, the guy lets go of the weight and turns to answer. Me, unaware that this delinquent is gonna do this, is still holding onto the weight. Crushed my right hand, lost four out of five fingernails, had to have a ring cut off my hand, broke the ring and the all-important middle finger, I found out later.
After screaming a couple choice words, a couple others get the weight off of my hand, which by now looks like Plum Crazy Purple. Teacher walks up to me, looks at it, mutters "Just put some ice on it...pussy." and walks away. I drove myself to the health dept. where my stepmother works....

My nurse didn't look like that!
Anyway, I went to the specialist yesterday and the all said what a nice break it was. Didn't make me feel any better. So they put a cast on it and tell me 5 weeks of not walking on it.
I get up this morning, and it hurts worst then when I did it. Back to the doctor. As soon as they take the cast off, you can see my foot start to shrink and most of the pain goes away.
Now I got this zoomie boot that Velcro's on(I know Velcro is remedial, but I'm hurt, so give me a break) and has ballons around the ankle I can pump up. When I'm just sitting around I can take it off. Way better.

that's weird about the cast. When I got hit by the car, my ankle got wrenched really bad--I found a drug store and bought an Ace bandage. After taking off my hiking boots, I wrapped my foot and ankle in the bandage, taking very good care not to make it tight. It was firm, but not tight at all. Just there for support and to make sure I didn't move it at weird angles while I slept.
It woke me up in the middle of the night, just throbbing and hurting like hell, even through the 4 Advil I took. I took off the bandage and it immediately felt better. A steady diet of Advil for the next several days helped. That's interesting that you had the same experience with the cast. I'd never heard of it before.

They also said no Advil, Motrin, etc. It slows down the healing process. Just one asprin in the morning and one at night to prevent blood clots from the bruising. The things you learn from injury.
