    Interstates or back roads?

Which do most people take? I like to take the old US highways when I'm not in a hurry and there should be plenty of time since the daily drives are pretty short.

It was mentioned in another thread that the small towns along the route get pretty crowded so I was wondering what to expect.

Hot Rod will publish the actual "Driving Directions", which is the Official Route sometime in mid-May. They pre-drive the route, and will determine how the tour should run. Some folks hit the interstates and get to the next venue as early as possible.....some of us will make many 'side-trips' to see things along the way, but in actuality, driving the 'route' is the most fun, since each little town knows we are coming. Usually they will have lots of spectators out to watch the show roll through, or they will have 'burn-out-pits', or meal specials to welcome us. It's totally up to you how to get from each venue to the next.......the traffic jams and other issues are part of the adventure, but remember: if you are LongHauling, you must get your credentials stamped at each venue. Otherwise, choose how you want to run, and have a blast.

We'll be driving the posted route. Ed summed it up well.

i will be doing the posted route this year. last year i couldnt due to the car not idling steady (650-1400 up & down). i installed a fast ez efi system and it didnt like the cam and vacum advance. i fought the idle issue the whole tour last year. i got rid of the vacum advance and it seems to be working good now. i'm ready for the back roads / sight seeing that i missed out on last year.

We will be driving the route. Much more fun to drive thru the small towns and see everyone out and watching. Miss way to much if you do the freeways.

Thanks for the heads up about the official route. It sounds like they do some advance work and the local know that we are coming. Man I'm looking forward to this, just gotta get the ride ready.
