    shifter knob question

I am hunting down a shift knob with a switch...and found the ever comon b&m..
what they forget to mention is type of switch..
is this push on and it stays on, push again to shut it off?

    or is a momentary?

I have since found an old hurst..all metal. I am certain the same one I found more than a year ago and still unsold.

      must be the all metal..

I am going for a low amp 5v function to ground, not even the lit side. anyway, thanks for reply.

I guess I can make a real switch in the same spot. I kinda want a little light to verify closed circuit.

I have since found these..little ones 12mm diamater.
will slip them inside some aluminum piping and tape it to gear shifter. I like the heavy weight knob on there now.
The ten speed sube is more than a gimmick to need a near 1 pound shifter.. I don't want to change it out. So, that is that..gain a switch, leave the shifter alone.

Many years ago I modified an aluminum T handle by adding a mini toggle switch, I use it for the switch pitch torque converter in my truck. I milled a hole in the end of the handle, and made an insert that the switch bolts to, and the insert is a press fit in the handle.

You could also just get the one they sell, and swap the switch for the type you need, although it may be challenging to get it apart and find an appropriate switch.

I do like the old hurst..the casting in the letters reminds me of the 1950s offenhauser lid, like someone set a template by hand and eye...
but I already got another plan. I found the switches at 12mm are the same as the ID of a subaru 1781cc wrist pin. I needed approx 3 inches to put it where I want..the wrist pin is 2.75.

a good hefty weight as well.

I guess I'll get it done. The oddity of needing at the shifter, I was riding an AFR waiting for rich enough to open damper..it then occured to me, my hand is always on the shifter when I want the damper to open..so there I have it. Just needs some ingenuity. That will be used quite often 3rd gear and beyond.

the real frustration...too many variables for automation. it even needs a throttle position sensor to go with o2 readings and intake temps. This one even responds different to humidity..tiny little engine.

no need to go that far, else I be swapping to injection entirely. man and machine is the genre for this one.

How about a momentary switch and a latching relay?
I use momentary switches all the time to energize a relay and then wire the relay to key itself energized until the power into the relay is interupted.

              that is interesting...

I may even have the latching relay already.

The B&M switch IS a momentary switch.... its mainly used as a line lock or trans brake
but can be used for many different things

yes I found a few ways to go about it.

I ended up with a 12mm pipe and a plastic switch..
I got to thinking of the all metal ones.. is it just me or when catalysts started gaining crazy powers in the 70s, the all metal switches went crazy on the shifter. I strangely remember that when I was a kid.

Everything used to be all metal, did not bother anything.
anyway, went with a remote ground and plastic..modern times.

I did find a version with a light, kinda regret not getting that one. it would say no light, no circuit..
