Laughing? No. Smiling? Yes, very much. And, watching the rear view for the PoPo.

But on the way home on ramp of the 405 the metering light was on. Can you say launch practice?

Oh yeah, the violence was so great one of the headlight trim rings fell off and got stuck in the front bumper.

You oughta sneak the vacuum unit back in there while he's not looking....all it does is save you gas.

Agreed, I wouldn't run with out one on something I drive regularly (or the digital equivelency =P)
        Escaped on a technicality.

I think mpg savings on a highly modified engine is debateable. I did plan on keeping watch on the mpg. If there is a significant drop off, I'd reconnect it for daily driving.

There will be a significant loss in MPG due to the maniacal driving induced by such improvements being repeatedly tested by the assometer, obviously this will go on until such a time when another modification will be attempted to duplicate these results.

Nice work Scott - working with Yannick has got to be way cool.

I agree with keeping the vacuum advance. Can't hurt anything leaving it on. Slightly off topic. Years ago I had a 70 bug. It had a 1641 CC engine (87MM pistons) Dual port head, a Zenith 32NDIX carb, mild cam and a Bosch 010 mechanical distributer. I noticed I had to drive it slightly aggressive to get better gas milage. If I took it easy, it would noticeably drop. I realized when I drove it easy, keeping the RPM down by shifting to the next gear, the timing wasn't coming in and hurting the economy!

After having fun yesterday I went to the grocery store. This is a grocery getter, isn't it? Anyhow, someone honked at me giving me a thumbs up when I was pulling into a parking space. He comes over to point at my grille and says something came off. It was one of my headlight trim rings.

I used to have a bumper sticker that said "Honk If Parts Fall Off". I may need another one. lol.

Experience? Sure - and I've been in Scott's car - so I know how fast it was - and how much fun it must be to eek out more power here and there to make it even more of a blast to drive.

While at pomona swap meet I found some decent side mirrors to replace the pitted, green junk on the passenger side and the one that fell off and I ran over in Vegas last November. They are GM Resto Parts ones. Seem like good quality. We'll see. But, at least I can see what's in the lane next to me.

On the advice of Yannick, I pulled off the 850 dp of the Impala and replaced it with the 750 dp that was on Caprice. The 850 was a bit of a dog at low rpms. I jetted 74/81's and tossed it on, then drove it to Famoso on Saturday. I got 19.67 mpg on the trip up there. And, that was with the vacuum advance still unconnected. So, all of those people who said that my mpg would suck without the vacuum advance, ppppppppfffffffffffttttttttttt!!!!

It would be an interesting comparison between vacuum and non vacuum. Many years ago I had a 70 VW, 1640, 010 distributor and a Zenith 32NDIX carb. I drove it very easy a few time for mileage and more aggressively for a comparison. I noticed when driven easy the fuel mileage would fall off a bit. I summarize shifting earlier and lower RPMs kept a lot of timing out was the reason for the lower MPG.

Too bad you don't have a vacuum carb to try as well.
