NP A833's like synthetic ATF. Scott, do the shift forks have teflon on the tips where they slide in? The teflon wears off from driving with your hand resting on the shifter, which puts pressure on the fork. Polish up that main drivegear retainer so the throw out bearing slides nice and smooth without any lube on it.

No teflon tips on the forks. I'll get a closeup shot them.

So far, I havent got two people tell me the same thing on what kind of fluid to run in these. I have gotten 90 wt, syn 75/90 gear oil, ATF, 30 wt motor oil, and now synthetic tranny fluid. I even called three dealersships and none could tell me what is recommended. Two made obvious guesses.

The 81 dodge van service manual says Dexron II for this trans.

The 81 Chevy truck service manual says 85W90 for all manual transmissions.

          Good luck.

Scott, my Dad was a New Process, Dana, Spicer, Eaton dealer for 40 years servicing the light, med, and big truck repair world, and rebuild a good many A-833's including helping me do the one in the 73 'Cuda I had. He always went with ATF, do to Dodge's use of it in these. I have two friends with Mopars running these, with Synthetic ATF and they both haven't had an issue, as well as how good synth. ATF works in a T5 too.

Since this came from a GM, and they used GL4 gearoil maybe thats the way you should go. Or you could compromise, and run a thinner 75w synth. gear oil, Poyal Purple, Red Line etc. My thought on running thinner oil, frees up some HP.

The guy who rebuilt mine a few years back got a new one from GM. I will see if I can find the part number. It is annoyingly not on the part itself.

I happen to have a 1985 chevy truck parts book, and I also have google. Combine the two...find the answer.

But yes, I am definitely some sort of god.

I was able to get the trans by myself in less than two hours this morning. Its what I have been worried about. The bellhousing is not centered on the back of the block and its putting side pressure on the input shaft, causing wear on the bearing.

                                I'll have pics up tonight.
