I've got one of the "regular" ones that looks like this: I just unscrewed that screw and the handle comes right off.

However, someone could still use a pair of pliers to mess with it/ you.

If you went with the push/pull style, you could completely remove the handle when you aren't at the track, and fill the hole with a grommet style rubber plug.

I had the push/pull style on the Buick. I put it behind the tail light - then drilled a hole in a spare lens. When the rod was removed, I had the other lens in place - thus covering the hole completely

Define glutton for punishment: Scott got out his Proform carb again and is bolting it on his car.

I am also trying to figure out the fuel pressure dropping as the engine heats up. I will replace rubber line between tank and hardline. Then cover the hardline in the engine compartment as it passes headers.

Tackling the rest of the trunk one half at a time. Since I am not going to replace the entire trunk floor because of some surface rust, I wanted to to do some rust protection and sealer. Using Rustoleum's Rust Remover and rust encapsulator.

First I did some grinding and got rid of the flash rusting that started from the last rain storm. Then used the Rust Remover. Pretty obvious change left to right. This stuff has muriatic acid in it and you can smell it. Nasty stuff, but it works.

Second step is the rust encapsulator. I painted it on and it supposed to dry black, but dried green. OK.

              Tomorrow, the left side.

                I got a question, Scott..
For some reason, I always thought this was a big block car like the Caprice... Then some pics seem to show a small block..
Then today, something was nigging me that this was a 383?
So basically, what do you have in this?

I rode to work in the early 70's in a big block 65 SS 4 speed car.. So there is a soft spot for these cars for me.. Had a 2 door post as well..

I'm a believer in good ol' Ospho. I used it on the roof and hood of my truck after finding surface rust under the previous "paint". The next day I used some sand paper to smooth it before hitting it with etching primer - and all the converted rust came off and left a clean silver surface. I didn't expect that!

As much as I wish it was a factory big block, it's just a little 383.

Underneath. I painted the seams and gaps with epoxy roll bar paint. Let it dry. Then took the caulking gun with seam sealer to all those seams, gaps and such. Then I primed, painted, and undercoated the bottom patch area. Then, I reinstalled the gas tank.

Inside the trunk. I used the seam sealer around the welded areas, then painted three coats of Rustoleum Hammer Tone Gray. I didnt want black in there. Makes it darker and harder to see at night. I was thinking about light gray, race car style; but went with this instead. I didn't paint the top of the shelf above the rear axle. It's so filthy and I would have to hose it out which would soak down the interior. I will get to it later.
