I could take the Caprice. But that car wouldnt be that fun on the autocross. This car just needs its fans wired up to run again. But, on the trip, I had a leak at the back of the motor but didnt lose any oil. I only put 1/2 qt in on the entire 1200 miles. I'm thinking that the bearing cover on the trans may be the culprit. I also noticed that the clutch is feeling a bit weird on release like it may be oil covered. I still have my old clutch which I could toss in this weekend if that is the case.Originally posted by Deaf Bob View PostAin't it always that way? utoh. Rear main leak? eeek - maybe you can save it if it didn't get soaked or glaze it. I haven't bought a clutch in years, sticker shocked when I did. What's up with not selling just the disc anymore?Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

I think Summit still sells just the disc. Its not the rear main leaking. I thought it was. Its the trans front seal, the bearing cover most likely.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

Just wondered......hopefully its just a gasket/sealant failure.
I want to do this trans swap in my '66 Buick. Just helped a buddy tow his truck to his mechanic last weekend, realized it has this same trans in it I believe. Early 90's 1/2 ton chevy that his oldest son is going to be driving.
I called dibs on the trans!Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.Comment

I'm thinking the gasket failed even though I replaced it before installing the trans. I'm hoping it's not leaking from the case at the expansion plug.Last edited by Scott Liggett; November 14, 2012, 09:28 AM.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

^^^^ THIS is what I had in mind. Its no racing trans, but seems to be a good street trans, and relatively cheap if you know what to look for.Originally posted by Scott Liggett View PostMy car has a truck trans in it. Its a four speed. A GM version of the long time Mopar A833 and A833OD used in cars and trucks throughout the '70's. GM used its version in pickups and vans '83-'87. The first ones had the mopar bolt pattern for the bell housing, then they all had the standard GM pattern. The first versions need the specific bellhousing. The later ones can use the standard bellhousing, but you have to mill down the bearing cover to fit, which is what I did. The option code was MY6 and the gear ratio 3.06/1.82/ 1.0/0.74.
This car has a 383.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver
