Art clocked 586 mph for the mile and 589 mph for the kilo on the run where he crashed. He had exited the mile and was seeing an indicated airspeed of 610 mph when the car flipped.

Breedlove had the 15,000 lbs thrust version of the J-79. Art had the model rated at 17,500 lbs thrust.
